Since everyone's been doing it, and I thought it might be fun, I decided to do a Top Ten Shows of the Decade post. Also, I am a sheep, bah bah :P
10. The X-Files
-The only real reason this is #10 is because it ended in 2002, just barely scraping into the 2000's. I'm including it because I grew up with this show. I lived for this show. I shipped Mulder and Scully before I even knew what shipping was and was incredibly depressed when it was cancelled (even though it probably should've happened sooner than it did). It debuted in 1993 and I'm almost certain I watched it with my mom from almost the very beginning. I'm pretty sure that without this show, half the shows on this list wouldn't be here, because The X-Files started my love for sci-fi and just crazy mindbending shit, and I love it so much, even now <3
9. Futurama
-This show is just ridiculously entertaining. One of the few on this list I watched from the beginning, I just love it. It's silly and stupid and so much fun to watch. I love the vision of the future and how ridiculous it is and all of the stupid little things that have been invented to "help" people along. I especially love that they actually developed the relationship between Fry and Leela and the series finale remains one of my favorite episodes of any TV show to this day. I'm lame and haven't seen any of the new movies, though, but hopefully soon XD
8. Scrubs
-Okay, so I'm lame and only got into this show late last year, but I plowed through all seven seasons so that I could watch S8 when it premiered. I just love this show. Love love love it. It's hilarious and touching and clever. I love watching the relationships develop over the course of the series, from Carla and Turk dating to getting married to having a baby, to J.D. and Elliot dancing around each other for years before finally settling down together, to Jordan and Dr. Cox falling back in love with each other, and especially all the friendships that developed and were maintained. Not to mention some of the amazing guest stars that have appeared on the show, like Brendan Fraser, Mandy Moore, and Dick Van Dyke, just to name a very small few. It makes me laugh, it makes me cry, and I just really love it.
7. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
-And another one I came to late. I didn't watch Buffy at first because I had this weird thing about the WB and refused to watch any shows on the station, but one night, after SNL, NBC showed the pilot episode of Buffy and so I watched it and was immediately hooked. S6 premiered on UPN soon after that and so for a year I watched S6 and slowly caught up with the first five seasons as they aired on NBC and just loved the show more and more. I loved the show spanning relationship between Buffy, Xander, Willow, and Giles. I loved Buffy's badassness, but I also loved how she was still Buffy, how she didn't let herself become hard and cold (well, at least in the beginning) and how she loved her friends and her mother so much and would do anything to protect them. I particularly loved her relationship with Giles (no surprise there :P) and was a little sad when they started to drift apart. But I still love this show and I think I need to have a rewatch fairly soon.
6. Lost
-This show is like the mindfuck of the decade. I've watched this from the day it premiered and I've been riding along with it ever since, even through all of the schedule changes and the crappiness of S3. It's ridiculous and awesome how TPTB over at Lost HQ have all this stuff interwoven throughout the show, the references to mythology and historical figures and if you know something about anything, sometimes it'll make you go, "Ahhh!" as you have an epiphany moment. This show is beyond frustrating, but it's also beyond addicting, and I cannot wait for S6 to start so we can see how it ends. And so I can watch it again, all the way through, and pick up on everything I missed the first time through.
5. Pushing Daisies
-Another show I watched from the beginning, I fell in love with this so quickly. It was so creative and so quirky and so clever until the writer's strike killed it and ABC just let it die. There was so much about this show to love, from the characters and relationships to the setting to the wardrobe and just the general look of the show, it was just amazing. This is the show that started by love affair with Lee Pace and I'm still quite irritated that I no longer get to see him on my TV every week, being adorably awkward and in love with Chuck. Even though it was actually quite dark, it was such a bright and uplifting show and it made me so happy. I definitely need to have a rewatch of this one soon.
4. Bones
-This is the newest show (to me) on this list. I only got into it about October of this year and rushed to catch up so I would be caught up with S5 before it came back after the winter hiatus. This is one of the very few shows in which I love every single character. I love Brennan's social awkwardness and Booth's loveableness, I love Angela's quirks and Hodgins' conspiracy theories and paranoia, I love Cam for her quick wit and no nonsense way of doing things and I love Sweets for his constant optimism even in spite of his past. I miss Zack like whoa but I love the rotating interns the show now features. And of course I love the relationship between Booth and Brennan and look forward to their interaction every week. Even with the underlying attraction, they're also completely believable as best friends and I absolutely love that about them. This show fills a void in my TV schedule and I just love it so <3
3. Glee
-This show. THIS SHOW. I saw the pilot when they screened in back in May and fell instantly in love with it. Instantly. I was beyond impatient over the summer waiting for the proper premiere, and I was not disappointed. This season so far has been amazing. The way the music is interwoven is just perfect and I love most of the characters, including some that I didn't like at the beginning but love to bits now (namely Quinn). I love the message of this show and even though some of the storylines are rather convoluted, overall I am so glad this show is in my life. It makes me genuinely happy when it's on and I never want it to end.
2. Supernatural
-Another show I came late to, though not as late as some, just over halfway through S3. If you couldn't already tell, I love relationships in my TV shows. Friendships, romances, rivalries, familial, whatever, I love relationships, and the one between Sam and Dean is just awesome. They've died for each other several times and even when they fight, they always end up back together. The show has had its ups and downs, like any show, but I think it's really hit its stride now and I love the current mytharc they've got going on with the angels and Lucifer, even though a lot of people don't. I can't wait to see how this season ends, because it's going to be epic.
1. Doctor Who
-Is anybody surprised by this? I didn't think so XD I bought S1 of this for my mom for Christmas '07 but we didn't watch it until July of 2008, and I just immediately fell in love. I loved Rose, I loved the Doctor, I loved the cheesy goodness of the episodes, I loved everything. Once I finished with S1, I went on a downloading spree and marathoned S2 through S4, catching up and actually getting ahead of my mom XD My favorite companion is and will probably always be Rose, and I don't care what anybody says about her. I'm ridiculously sad about David leaving the show and I know that when the final special airs, I will be a wibbly puddle of tears. This show got me back into writing
fanfiction (at which I've been crazy prolific, posting over 50 fics in one year), has made me fall in love with Billie Piper and David Tennant, and has introduced me to so many of my friends here on LJ, and for all of that, I'm just beyond pleased and grateful, and I'm definitely excited to see how the show will continue in Series 5 with Matt Smith.
