You Know You're a Fan When...

I totally missed (on purpose because my mom actually texted me when it was starting) the first half hour of the Tony Awards yesterday to watch Selena Gomez guest star on Sonny With a Chance.

Somehow, within the past month, I've gone over to the dark side and become a pretty significant fan of Demi Lovato. I mean, I didn't hate her before, I just wasn't a fan (and couldn't stand her music) but I guess when Sonny With a Chance premiered, I really love that show so I respected her acting more (i really didn't like her that much at all in Camp Rock). And then I saw her "La La Land" music video and did love that. However, I think it was when I read that she is actually a fan of metal, and had to ask the Jonas Brothers for help with her first record because she didn't think her fans would be into that kind of music where I was like "OH! THAT explains a lot!". Because my major beef with her had been first that she smiled too much when she sang (especially in "Get Back", but then Miley Cyrus had the exact same problem in the beginning of smiling when it made no sense with the lyrics, and I'm sure the Disney Execs encourage smilling). Also a problem I had with Demi was that she started off too loud in her songs so it sometimes sounded like she was shouting at inappropriate parts. But then, if she's a metalhead, that makes more sense since metal music commonly has a lot of shouting/loud singing throughout the song. And she's toned that down as well.

And on our drive back from Niagara Falls, I had asked my sister if I could borrow her Zune for a bit since I had forgotten my iPod that trip and wanted to listen to music. She had several Demi Lovato songs (including "Trainwreck" which impressed me), so I finally conceded that yes, i was a fan of the girl. Her acting, singing, and just her.

Of course...back in the beginning, what first caught my attention was how close and what "good friends" she was with Selena Gomez. And yes, that's in quotes because I firmly believe those girls are either totally together or are going to be. Emphasis on the first possibility.

And I have been a major fan of the lovely Selena Gomez since she was a minor reoccuring character on Hannah Montana playing Mikayla. I just love that girl. And her music video and cover of "Cruella de Ville" is just amazingly awesome in my opinion. I just love this girl. She's just so confident, cool, and has that bit of sass in both interviews and her characters that makes her so lovable. And yet, she never seems full of herself or conceited (something I do sometimes get from Miley...), she's just happy to be where she is.
.

So when I heard and found out that the girls would finally be meeting on one of their shows (although I always figured it'd be Alex Russo going out to meet Sonny on So Random! what with the magical powers and everything), I was estatic and had to watch. I mean, I'm excited for Princess Protection Program just because it has the two of them in the movie. XD So this I figured would be like a cool preview.

The episode itself did not dissapoint, although was not what I was expecting either. Chad is like a much cooler and more likable version of what I think Jake Ryan (from HM) was supposed to be. And I heard someone mention Chad and Sonny are like Derek and Casey almost minus the stepsiblings part, which I do agree with. I was laughing so hard at Selena's "I don't have to take this, I was in Camp Hip-Hop!" and then the parody of it (and Chad's "this is better than my movie!" XD). Also, Demi's making fun of Selena's character on Wizards of Waverly Place (and again, Chad's "Hello Scary Potter..."). I swear, I still can't believe SWAC is not a show on Nickelodeon, because the humor is just SO Nick! (I mean, I know it's a different episode, but Zora's Kid Lawyer character?? Anybody else think of Amanda's Judge Trudy?????). Their fake antagonism and then suddenly getting along was very cute and cool.
.

So I turned back to the Tony Awards after the episode ended, and didn't feel any guilt for doing so (even when my mom said "and you call yourself a New Yorker!" for choosing to watch SWAC over the beginning of the Tonys, because yes it is that big a deal for me and my family XD). I love these girls. And am still holding out for the two of them eventually coming out... because the two of them are adorable as is their relationship. (and it annoys me when during those commercials for "friends making a difference" that Demi and Selena and Miley are all shown together and they are acting as though the three of them are all so close and best friends...because if nothing else, Demi and Selena are closer than Miley and either of them...) And how great role models the two fo them would be if they did come out? It'd be perfect...

But, til then, I leave with my two favorite music videos of both of them.

Demi Lovato's "La La Land" which I loved since I first heard it since it seemed like saying to her 'mainstream' critics "yeah, I'm a Disney star. And I am happy with that. So fuck you!" kind of video... XD Plus, I like the song.

And sadly Selena doesn't have many videos, but I do love her "Cruella de Ville" one so I'm definitely including that. :)
