Disney Essay Approved!!!!
XD I am so happy!!
The woman I spoke to about my independent project not only approved my idea for the Disney essay, she's actually really excited about it!! She was reading the beginning of the essay and was giggling about some of the sentences and said that it was "fascinating"! XD WAY more than I was expecting for it.
Anyway, she likes the idea, she's kept the print-out of the essay (she knows I have a blog now, I hope this doesn't come back to bite me....*knocks on wood*) and her niece watches Hannah Montana so she was really interested in that. She's hopeful about the general LBGT themes in the children's shows, and laughed when I expained some of the examples I was going to have in the essay (like the kiss in Drake&Josh, Ryan Evans in general XD, the subtext in Hannah Montana songs, and how the "hints" about characters in the shows in the '50s and '60s are very similar to some of them on TV today).
There are only two issues now: we have to find an advisor for the project/essay for me, and then have to figure out what shows/movies specifically I will be focusing on in the essay. Here's my ideas at the moment depending on which will be best to do after I talk with my advisor once they're chosen:
One movie/show: High School Musical- Primarily because it's one of the most popular children's movies at the moment, I could easily talk about those two movies for 14 pgs, Ryan probably will be the highlight of the essay regardless, and finally I have both of the movies and soundtracks so referencing specific details will be easy to do.
A few movies/shows: High School Musical, Drake&Josh, Hannah Montana. They're all relatively popular and loaded with subtext. XD Not to mention they're all on TV pretty often so they'd be fairly asy to reference (plus I have two Drake&Josh episodes from iTunes...I could get one or two Hannah ones if I needed to)
Several movies/shows: All of the above and possibly/probably The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, and maybe cartoons like The Fairly Odd Parents, and some of the other tv shows I mentioned in my Metaphorical Disney essay before and suggestions people gave me earlier.
Many movies/shows: All of the above, plus recent Disney movies like The Little Mermaid, Mulan, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame...
