darkfox200 Character: Amakura Kei
Series: Fatal Frame III; The Tormented
Version: Game version
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Appearance: Kei is a young adult, about average height (5'8''?). He looks like your typical Japanese man, short black hair and brown eyes. In terms of clothing, he wears a pair of faded/worn jeans and a blue shirt with a black short sleeved jacket/shirt on top. A pair of black wristbands and a simply necklace completes his outfit.
To the dead or others who are suffering the Tattoo curse, they will be able to see the Snake and Holly pattern has almost covered Kei’s entire body. He’s just missing the pattern on his face and eyes...
Personality: Kei is a lot like Yuu and Mafuyu, in that he's a kind and gentle man. He's smart and not nearly as naive as he's sometimes depicted in webmanga or the manga anthology. Seeing how Miku and Mio never said a word about what happened to their older siblings, Kei was still able to figure out that there was a chance that his friend and his niece had both been 'spirited away' (he mentions this briefly in a letter to Yuu, who had passed away at that time... Another loss that Kei was in the dark about) Likewise, he was able to dig up a lot of information on the Manor of Sleep urban legend in a span of two months. All of the letters he sent to Yuu were in relation to the information that Kei learned and wanted a second opinion on.
Like most men, he tends to put on a brave face. With his niece in emotional turmoil upon losing her sister and his own sister (also the twins' mother) in the hospital, Kei did his best to look after Mio. When he arrives at Rei's house late in the game, one gets the impression that he doesn't seem to be as phased by the deaths and disappearances. Sad at the loss, but not in grief like Miku, Mio and Rei were.
At least, not until one listens to him sleep talk.
There, the player can hear that Kei is just as tormented by the disappearances and deaths as the three girls. Calling out with familiar phrases heard through the game ('No... Don't go... Don't leave me behind.'), Kei will either utter the names of his nieces or the names of his best friends. After all, he's only human.
Fears: Like most people, he doesn't like the idea of being left alone. And not simply alone; he fears losing all those who are close to him. His one saving grace?
He has nothing left to lose back home.
Weaknesses: Kei has no notable powers. His strength is average and his spirit power is almost non-existent (nothing like his friend Mafuyu's anyway). Not being from a family line that carried the blood that could see things that other people couldn't really places Kei at a disadvantage in the Fatal Frame games.
Strengths/Abilities: He's your average human in every way. Barely any spirit power and physically fit. But it's probably due to the low spiritual power that he's able to hide from most malevolent ghosts.
The Camera Obscura doesn't do much when it's in Kei's possession. Shitty camera is shitty... It takes patience and nerves of steel to use Kei's camera and not spend time running round and round trying to dodge ghosts. Though chances are, he's going to spend more time running and hiding from ghosts than taking their photos. In the Dollsyhouse, Kei keeps his camera, the only film left in it after his fight with Yashuu and Kyouka is type-7 and a few type-14. Like I said, fail camera is fail.
... He also has the Echo Stone Earrings on them. Presumably, you need a pair for it to work, but nonetheless, if another one shows up in the Dollsyhouse, then Kei would be able to hear the other holder's voice.
History: A non-fiction writer with an interest in folklore, Kei was a close friend of both Hinasaki Mafuyu and Asou Yuu often times exchanging research notes with the two men. He's also the uncle of the twins, Mio and Mayu.
He had met Mafuyu when they were both working with Junsei Takamine, an author that both men admired. Afterwards, the elderly writer went missing along with his assistant and his editor, prompting Mafuyu to go investigate. That was the last anyone ever heard of them and only Mafuyu's younger sister, Miku, would ever know the full story behind their disappearances. Still, Kei has continued looking into Takamine's whereabouts to no avail.
Later on, his nieces disappear for approximately a week in the Minakami region, a place the two used to live and play in when their father and mother were in good health. While they were inseparable, only Mio was ever found again. When asked about what happened to her sister though, Mio, like Miku, wouldn't talk about that single incident. Seeing the distress that Mayu's disappearance caused her twin, Kei went to the Minakami region to investigate. During this time, he left Mio with his friend Yuu. There was nothing in the village when Kei arrived. The only object of interest found there was a strange camera that elicited a distressing response from his niece.
Deciding it was best to keep such an object away from Mio, he sent the camera to Yuu for safekeeping before continuing his research. It was around this time that Mio started to sleep more and more which prompted her uncle into researching the urban legend surrounding dreams. He probably knew what dangers lay in that field; since he mentions not wanting to become too deeply involved in a letter to Yuu (the same letter also mentions how folklore was Yuu and Mafuyu's field of interest). Kei's letters aren't dated, so it's difficult to confirm just when Yuu's death occurred as Kei continued to send his letters and information gathered to his deceased friend.
During the time he was sending Yuu notes, the writer notes that he had also started experiencing the dream that those under the Tattoo Curse witnessed. He was being drawn into the horrors of the Manor of Sleep because Mio and Rei had dreamt of him and with time running out for himself and Mio, Kei began searching more frantically for a way to free them from this Curse.
Upon discovering from Rei that Yuu had passed away, and later finding Miku in a coma state like Mio, Kei resolved to free them from this curse once and for all.
"I'm sure everything will be okay."
With those last words to Rei, Kei settled in for another night in that accursed Manor. Running through the halls, he hastened to collect the four Tattoo Stakes that would sooth the Priestess that would not sleep. Taking a detour along the way, he found the Woman Brushing's room and an ornate earring that she kept. Was this a gift from the man she calls out for whenever she sees him? Pocketing the earring and the photo, he turns and heads deeper into the manor.
Reaching the stone entrance way of the Chamber of Thorns, he takes a moment to steel himself before pushing through the doors. Once inside, the Purifying Candle's light faltered and Kei had to stop to collect her bearings. The miasma was thick and the atmosphere was horrifying. All those priestesses, impaled against the floor and walls with eyes glazed over in eternal sleep. Repeating the commandment to himself, he approaches where Reika lay...
Only to find that she had already been impaled.
In the time it took for him to overcome his shock, the sound of impaling was ringing through the Chamber. The stakes were being pulled out of her limbs by some force and in that instant; Kei realized how wrong he had been. He barely had time to turn when the sound of the stone doors slamming closed echoed through the pitch black Chamber of Thorns and the familiar burn of the tattoo on his body flared up. In his haste, he must of tripped over one of the impaled Priestesses, because the next thing he knew, he was lying on hardwood floors and in a building he had never been.
Was this still a dream?
Shitty history is shitty and will be re-written later down the line. Goddamn >>
