Haruka watched as Shizuka toddled around the room, bumping into things and tripping on the hem of his kimono. His grandson fell, and he smiled as the child climbed back to his feet and took determined step after determined step towards him.
When Shizuka stood in front of him, his grandson looked up at him and demanded to be taken outside. “I want to make a snowman,” young Shizuka informed him earnestly.
“Why not ask your mother or father?” Haruka asked, taking a lazy drag of his pipe. “I’m sure they’d like to play with you.”
Shizuka shook his head, his long hair snapping in the air. “I want jiichan to play with me.”
He smiled and reached out a hand to smooth out Shizuka hair. He took another drag from the pipe before giving into his grandson’s demand. “Make sure you grab a thick jacket, Shizuka.”
The child nodded happily before carefully beginning his trek across the room. Haruka watched him and smiled softly.
