Well, the only reason I don't like Doumeki/Kohane is because I still envision her as she was when she was a young child, so I just don't pair her with anyone, anyway. And I never really percieved any actual romantic thing between her and Doumeki, myself. It always seems strictly platonic/sibling like to me.
though I never did expect the series to have a happy shippy ending. Doesn't mean I didn't wish, of course, but I didn't really think it would happen... I did like that the "canon" yaoi ship was ambiguous, though. I mean.. speculation can be fun, and bromances/close friendships are just as attractive as two men being sexually attracted to one another, in my opinion. Lol. It was really just how close Doumeki and Watanuki were (romantically or not, they were pretty close) to one another that made me love them and their relationship. and, though Himawari was just kind of whatever for me at first, she grew on me, too, especially after the window incident. So I have to agree with you on the OT3, though I suppose I prefer them as a platonic BFF OT3 in general, though the romantic angst is also appealing sometimes. xD
But I do agree with you that the fandom probably should have seen this angsty shipping ending coming. If not only because of the way the series was set up, but also because it's CLAMP we're talking about here. Only like.. 3 had happy endings with little or no angst involved after the series. (Chobits, CCS, and Angelic Layer, if I remember correct.) Literally everything else, even endings like Tsubasa, were bittersweet at best. And really, did they expect this series to follow in the footsteps of CLAMP's shoujo works? I mean really.
And now I rambled some more, yay. Rambling is too easy to do when CLAMP is involved. xD
That seems to be the viewpoint with a lot of people. I can see that, so I can see how that would be squicky. ^^;;
I've given up having hope for happy endings. It's funny, because when I was replying to you last time, I wrote that the majority of their endings were bittersweet then deleted it. XD;; But, yeah. Most of the endings aren't happy go lucky, either. In fact, my favorite series has a downright tragic ending.
I love my OT3 - romantic, platonic, angsty. ♥ I've written so much Himawari fic, and each one makes me love her just a little bit more. ♥
