He was getting far better at denying the things that were right in front of his face, he decided. After all, there was no way in hell that Ko was standing in the foyer at the Kansai Ki-in, or that he was walking toward him at that very moment.

“Chibi,” Ko said, smiling, and Kiyoharu could almost see the aura of smugness around Ko’s body. “It’s rude to stand in the doorway. People are trying to get around you.”

A nightmare, he suddenly realized. That’s what it had to be.

Except the touch of something in a nightmare shouldn’t be solid and warm, which Ko’s hand at the small of his back felt like.

“Why,” he ground out, “are you here?”

The old men were staring at them, and Kiyoharu felt his face heat up. He could hear the whispers from the old ladies at the information desk.

Nope. Definitely a nightmare.

“Is it so wrong that I wanted to come see you?” Ko replied. “After all, weren’t you the one saying that we didn’t see each other enough?”

“Go to hell,” Kiyoharu whispered.

“I believe I’m already here, though it seems to be more painful for you than me.”

“Kiyoharu,” one of the ladies at the information desk called, “why don’t you introduce us to your friend? Does he play Go, too?”

“Oh, yes, Kiyoharu, please introduce us,” Ko repeated, grinning.

This was worse than a nightmare, he decided, a shiver running down his spine at Ko’s use of his given name. He had to get away quick.

When he woke up on the couch of the Kansai Ki-in, everyone gathered around him and head screaming in agony, he smiled.

“Feel any better, chibi?” a voice said from behind him.

Kiyoharu blinked once, then began to cry.

Title: Keeping Warm
Author: doumeki
Rating: PG-13
Series: Gouhou Drug, xxxHOLiC
Characters/Pairings: Rikuo, Kazahaya, Yuuko
Word Count: 414
Author's Notes: A very late holiday gift for versine. Enjoy! ♥

It all starts when Kakei sends them to pick something up from someone named ‘Yuuko-san.’

Rikuo is searching for the right intersection, and Kazahaya is whining about being cold.

“Will you shut up?” Rikuo asks, annoyed. He doesn’t know why he has to go with the idiot, only that Kakei said that it would be a good bonding opportunity, which he figures translates to Kakei wanting some alone time with Saiga.

“No,” Kazahaya snaps back. “You’re the one who said we had to leave right then and wouldn’t even let me grab my jacket and it’s cold and snowing, you ass.”

“It’s not far from the store,” Rikuo counters, “and it stopped snowing hours ago.”

“Not everyone is built like a whale, you whale,” Kazahaya gripes.

“Are you calling me fat?” Rikuo asks, incredulously.

“No,” Kazahaya says. “I’m calling you a whale.”

“Just because you’re built like a girl, Kazahaya-chan, doesn’t mean I’m a whale.”

“What was that, you big fat jerk?”

People are staring at them now, but Rikuo has long since gotten used to this. You had to in order to go anywhere with Kazahaya.

Instead of replying, he slings his arm around Kazahaya and keeps walking.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Kazahaya screeches.

“For crying out loud,” Rikuo grumbles. “You said you were cold, right? And I’m a whale.”

“So?”

“I’m keeping you warm.”

“Well, I don’t want you to keep me warm.”

Rikuo removes his arm. “Fine.”

The street sign catches his attention and he turns left. Kazahaya is right behind him.

“You can walk up here, you know,” Rikuo informs him.

“Don’t want to. I like it back here.”

“You like looking at my ass, you mean.”

“Yes.” Kazahaya pauses for a moment, and Rikuo can hear the wheels turning in Kazahaya’s head. “Wait! I mean no! No!”

“I’m flattered, Kazahaya-chan,” he says, looking over his shoulder. “Make me dinner tonight, and I’ll let you see it without the pants.”

“Asshole!”

“You want to see that, too?” Rikuo asks, raising his eyebrows. “Naughty, naughty.”

Kazahaya is bright red, but moves to walk with Rikuo. He is silent for five minutes before he says, “I’m cold.”

Rikuo smirks. “Think of my ass. I’m sure that will keep you warm.” Kazahaya bristles, and Rikuo leans in and whispers, “and if it gets you hot, we can take care of that on the way back.”

He picks Kazahaya’s unconscious body up from the snow covered ground and keeps going.

Title: Appreciation
Author: doumeki
Rating: G
Series: xxxHOLiC
Characters/Pairings: Watanuki, Himawari, Doumeki, Maru, Moro, Ame Warashi, Zashiki Warashi, Kohane, Yuuko
Word Count: 672

Himawari-chan offers to go with him, but he turns her down, explaining that this is something he wants to do alone, and it wouldn’t do if Himawari-chan knew what he was getting her, would it? She smiles uncertainly, but nods, saying that she understands, but won’t you please be careful, Watanuki-kun?

Doumeki, who has been standing with them while he explains to Himawari-chan why she can’t go, only nods and tells him to get to Yuuko-san’s before dark. Kimihiro glares and tells him to mind his own business. Doumeki rolls his eyes, and he and Himawari-chan turn right at the school gate.

He goes left.

It’s easy to pick out something for Chitose-san - she loves to cook, and tells him every year how much she looks forward to the cookbooks he gives her. This time, though, he picks up a pair of silver cooking chopsticks with sakura carved into them to go with the mochi cookbook he has picked out.

Across the street, he is able to pick out something for Maru and Moro. Silver barrettes with blue butterflies for Maru, gold barrettes with pink stars for Moro. He doesn’t know if they’ll wear them, so he also gets them a portable shougi board.

He stops into the Piffle Jewelry store, and comes out with three items: a silver necklace with a linking the chain for Himawari-chan, a pair of gold pins with silver wings on them for Kohane-chan, and a pale blue cloth choker with rhinestone flowers for Zashiki-Warashi.

For Doumeki, he stops by a sports store and buys a pair of archery gloves and new string for his bow.

A book of random world trivia for Mokona, who loved sprouting random facts and reading through Kimihiro’s history textbook, and a new umbrella for Ame Warashi, who had broken her last one when she had hit Doumeki on the head with it the last time they had seen her. He picks up a fleece-lined cat bed for Mugetsu.

Syaoran-kun’s group had already been sent their gift - an assortment of cookies and baked goods, and a thermos of hot apple cider.

All that was left was Yuuko-san.

He gives Himawari-chan and Doumeki their gifts during lunch, telling Doumeki that the only reason he got anything at all is because the great Watanuki-sama took pity on him. Doumeki tells him that he’s noisy, and opens his gift while Himawari-chan thanks Kimihiro for the pretty necklace, telling him he shouldn’t have.

Kohane-chan is waiting in the park after school, and he gives her the wrapped package. She takes it hesitantly, thanking him quietly. She tells him that she’ll open it when she gets home. He smiles at her and wishes her well, telling her that he hopes she likes it.

Ame Warashi and Zashiki Warashi are waiting for him in front of the shop, and Zashiki Warashi hands him a wrapped gift. He stammers that it wasn’t necessary, handing each of them theirs. Ame Warashi huffs and says that if it’s not necessary for Zashiki Warashi to get him a gift, then it’s not necessary to get them gifts. He apologizes, thanking Zashiki Warashi for her thoughtful gesture, and takes the present. Ame Warashi nods before grabbing Zashiki Warashi and flying into the air with her new umbrella.

Maru and Moro dance around him when he enters Yuuko-san’s shop, barrettes in their hair and the portable shougi board on the floor near Yuuko-san’s fainting couch. Mugetsu is curled up in his bed in the corner, while Mokona jumps on Kimihiro’s head, shoving its book in his face and pointing to a fact about Brazil.

Yuuko-san is standing in the entryway to the kitchen, a bemused look on her face, and holds up the gift he had bought for her.

Are you trying to say something, Watanuki? she asks, smiling wide, and Kimihiro wonders whether that book was a wise choice.

He gathers up his courage and shoves past her, saying, You’re an alcoholic, Yuuko-san. I hear the six steps work.

Title: The Silence of Noise
Author: doumeki
Rating: G
Series: Clover
Characters/Pairings: Ran, Gingetsu
Word Count: 197
Author's Notes: A very late holiday gift for fufuberrysoda. Enjoy! ♥

He looks out the window and sees a world of sound and lights - bright, sparkling, so close, and yet, one he cannot be part of.

He looks back at his life before this one, looks back at the cage he had escaped for this one, this one which has more freedom and so many more restrictions.

He thinks back on his life, thinks of his brothers and wonders if they ever had names other than ‘A,’ ‘B,’ ‘C.’ He thinks that their lives would have been different if they had never been brought to the cage, if they had never found out that they were three leaf clovers, but he knows that would not have changed much. The cage prolonged their life, kept them together longer than fate would have allowed.

This cage or that cage, light or dark, sound or silence.

The noise of the city echoes around him, muffled by the glass separating him from the rest of the world. The silence of the apartment engulfs him, makes it hard to breath.

The door opens, and Gingetsu is beside him, one hand on his shoulder, a silent presence that hums with life.

Ran breathes.
