Excitingly, this is
International Blog Against Racism Week! The theme is intersectionality, so people are discussing the ways in which racism intersects with other forms of oppression (sexism, ablism, homophobia, and so on).
Last year some interesting discussion in the Jewish context came out of IBARW.
vaznetti made a very interesting post about
racism and anti-semitism, and how she wasn't sure whether discussing her experiences of anti-semitism would be valid or welcome during IBARW.
So I thought that this time around it might be interesting to talk about some of these issues while the week is still going on. I'm wondering whether people think that there is a space for the discussion of Jewish issues within IBARW, and how they understand the intersection between racism and anti-semitism. And I'd be particularly interested to hear from Jewish people who also identify as people of color, because I think they would have a great deal to say.
Just to let everyone know, I'm not Jewish myself, so I don't know to what extent I'll be able to participate in the discussion. Hopefully I will have been able to catalyze something productive, though.
