I'm back!

Hey Everyone!

I'm okay!!!! I JUST got electricity, water, phone, and internet back at my house at 11pm last night...whew! I'll go into the gory details of that experience in a later post..lol. I'm very lucky though compared to the people of New Orleans, Mississippi, and the rest of the Gulf Coast area. My aunt, who
lives(d) in New Orleans, and her two kids are now living with me until they don't know when, I feel so horrible for them. They had to go yesterday to the high school here and register for school b/c it could be months until they can get back to their schools. I went with them today to get uniforms for the school, luckily I live in a great town and the stores are giving the hurricane victims vouchers for free school uniforms and school supplies.

Work is another story. I'm a nurse in a Baton Rouge NICU and it is chaotic there. We are a hospital dedicated to woman and newborns, and for the past week have had helicopter after helicopter dropping off all of the sick and injured from New Orleans b/c the surrounding hospitals are full. I feel so bad for these people b/c we don't have an E.R. so once they get to are hospital all we can do is triage them then ship them off AGAIN to another hospital outside of Baton Rouge, b/c unless they are in labor, have oncology needs, or are a premature or well baby, we are not equip to handle their needs. We had over 100 babies in my unit on Thursday night and were preparing to get in 26 more the next day.

Then there are all the rumors going around Baton Rouge. New Orleans had it's share of problems and problematic citizens, so now we are hearing all the stories of riots in our local grocery stores, gas stations, shelters, etc. People holding people at gun point..you name it, it's rumored to have happened...I have to laugh at some things b/c some of it is ridiculous. My mom was scared for my life b/c I had to go to Walmart this morning to restock my fridge *rolls eyes*...luckily I survived the long line.

Well, I'll write more later...just wanted my LJ friends to know I'm okay. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Now we need to hear from Charley!!!
