Wow, thanks. These are great. I've never seen an Iranian movie. I bought a Magnetic Fields CD (guess why) and it wasn't what I expected. It wasn't 69 Love Songs. Can't remember the name now.
lol about the Magnetic Fields. I played one of the cds in the car while my father visited. He was not impressed. "They're TALKING. That's not singing..." :D The songs have a Bob Dylan quality to me, so I am a big fan. And like I told my father. If the songwriter includes Camus in a lyric, you've got me.
I am a foreign film fan. Iranian film is particularly strong in children centered films. The White Balloon and Bacheha-Ye aseman (Children of Heaven), an oscar winner, are two stand-outs.
Well, I love Dylan, so I've got to give Magnetic Fields another listen. When it comes to music, my first impressions are frequently wrong. Some of my favorite albums are ones which initially I wasn't crazy about. The CD I have is "Distant Plastic Trees." It's going in the discman tomorrow!
Hmm. I just checked the song listing for that cd. I don't believe any of those made it onto the 69 Love Songs collection. 69 LS is a three cd set but you can buy each separately. Vol 1 is my personal favorite but Vol 2 has the song When My Boy Walks Down the Street from QAF 203 :D
Too bad you may have a dud album :( I know that 69 LS made Rolling Stones' top 100 of the century (or maybe it was decade? lol)
1) Badkonake sefid (aka The White Balloon) from Iran
2) a classic: The Fixer by Bernard Malamud
a modern piece: Rolling the R's by R. Zamora Linmark
3) 69 Love Songs by the Magnetic Fields
4) sandstorm63
5) indian, some curry and naan bread (yummy)
6) Free Speech Radio from Berkeley, CA http://www.kpfa.org/
