The flu is quite a bitch...

Nov 21, 2005 00:50

I woke up this morning feeling horrible. James has diagnosed me with the flu (don't you just love significant others who are an EMT and nursing major)? Lol. He did make me chicken noodle soup from scratch though, so I can't complain.

I haven't written in a while, so I will try to sum up things very shortly:

I met my new boss on Monday, and we went to a restaurant on the Sylvan Lake Gold Course in Troy. It was my initiative, and he said he was impressed because some of the staff accountants there don't ever offer to take him out to lunch. We talked about many topics, work-related and not. He's been in many different types of business situations and has had lots of experience (he has his CPA and JD). His personal hobby is photography. There is another principal partner in the firm who goes with him to shoot all sorts of photos. Overall, I did this to get a chance to meet my new boss before the internship starts so I have a little bit of a leg up on other people. Impressions are huge, and I thought that was the best chance I had to make mine.

School is tough. Motivation is low. Body temperature is high. I have three weeks left, and I am worried about my next big Intermediate ACC 2 exam (I really had a rough time grasping the latest material). I will be doing mucho studying over Thanksgiving break (I only get Thursday off unfortunately).

Last Tuesday morning, I learned how to jump a horse for the first time. Was it scary? No, not at all. It was easier than I thought it was going to be, but the tricky part is posture and control. My teammates competed against Findlay in Ohio this past weekend, and two of the girls got 1st place in their divisions. Our team is really coming up to speed since it was started up in August.

My coach wrote this about me in an email to all the team "Anyway, lessons as usual this week (including Monday) and Kramer has a handle on the team jackets, so that is getting done. Other than that, that's about it. See you this week, including you, Kevin! KEVIN IS JUMPING NOW EVERYONE!!! Can you believe it? He's doing a great job, too (especially now that he's got the saddle facing in the right direction)!" (At my second riding lesson, I was tacking up the horse, and put the saddle on the wrong way...he took video of it too..lol).

Thursday night, I had Matt over to play Risk (the board game). We had a great time, and at 3am (when James won), we decided to jump in the hot tub. I did some major kung fu fighting against Matt, but he's way better than I am. I ended going to bed around 5am, and woke up 8 to get ready for work. Surprisingly, I wasn't too tired.

Friday night, I had Gary over for Margaritas, pizza, and movies. We had a lot of fun.

Saturday night, I went to my mom's commissioning ceremony for her two year program in Ignation spirituality. The ceremony was really touching, and I'm glad that my mom has done something to continue her theological education. This is basically the equivalent of a doctoral program. The classes were held at Manresa Jesuit Retreat Center in Bloomfield Hills. The commissioning ceremony was at Columbiere Center in Clarkston. It was nice, except someone ran off with my brand new, full length, Hugo Boss black coat. I just bought it at a ridiculous discount (James works for Marshall Fields). We found out later that the person who mistakenly took it came to see my mom's ceremony. Luckily, I will have it back tomorrow. While James still works at Marshall Fields (for another 6 days), I have been and will continue to use his discount to save ridiculous amounts of money. I bought literally 2 pairs of dress pants, a new suit, 4 dress shirts, 2 ties, a scarf, the coat, black shoes, and some other stuff that I'm not remembering at the moment. I am buying all of these clothes for my internship. I also used his discount to retailor some of my nice clothes (never go to Express Alterations in Royal Oak [they do a HORRIBLE job and have ruined some of my clothes]).

Today, I slept in until 12, went into work to meet my dad (I'm phasing out of my job for the internship), and then went back home and slept more. I mostly slept today, because I have to be feeling better tomorrow (I have so much to do before Tuesday). I watched a great movie with Alec Baldwin and Anthony Hopkins called 'The Edge.' I'd seen it once before a long time ago, but forgot how good it was. The story centers around a Billionare named Charles Morris (Hopkins), his wife (who's gorgeous and maybe in her 30's), and Bob (Baldwin). They fly with approximately 10 other people to an Alaskan lodge for a vacation. Charles is an extremely intelligent man, and has extremely expansive knowledge on almost all things. Charles, Bob, and this black guy take a trip to find a Native American Indian to model for them (both photographers). They then find that the Indian guy is out hunting bears, so they fly their plane on the way to where he is, but some birds fly into it, and it crashes into the water. This is basically a story of survival. The black guy dies (gets eaten by a bear). Bob pretends to be Charles friend, but Charles later founds out that Bob and Charles wife are having an affair, and set Bob with him to kill him. When Bob is about to kill Charles, Charles moves closer to him, so he backs up into a bear pit, and a wooden spike goes through his leg. Charles, then saves him, but Bob dies right before they get rescued. The last seen is the helicopter flying into the lodge, and there is tons of press there. Charles hugs his wife, but then shows her the expensive watch she bought for Bob with his money. She then starts crying. The press asks what happened to Charles companions. Charles pauses for a long time, while they keep asking, then he says 'they died trying to save my life.' This whole event was what Charles was waiting for as a challenge for him to fulfill his life, which the story alludes to him having to watch his back all the time because people wanted to steal his wife and money.
