Note: The following was a comment i posted on SK on a thread that i started claiming that the Left was murdering Terri Schiavo, incoherence, incoherence, name-calling name-calling yadda yadda yadda
Guys, I spoke too soon.
I have to say we're all equally murderers. You guys vote in libs who seem to want to kill her, I vote in Republicans who pretend to want to save her, fly back from vacation just to make a symbolic gesture that had no hope of saving her, and act surprised that it didn't work.
The "christian right" or whatever you want to call it, is now to the Republican Party what the Black vote is to the democrat party. Patronize them here, throw them an empty spoken bone there, and they'll keep voting for you, even though you dont' get them results. Plain and simple, Bush and the Republicans in congress did just enough to look like they wanted to save her, but not so much that they would actually save her and alienate voters who would think they are overreaching their power. Jeb Bush could easily ignore the recent court order and take protective custody of Terri, but he's aware that it would spell the end of his political career (not that we would vote a 3rd Bush to the presidency, i know I wouldn't. Americans don't like dynasties).
GW Bush is too afraid of losing his 'moderate' supporters, and too afraid of his Social Security losing if his numbers plummet. He doesn't want to spend his "political capital" on this issue. (Never mind that a life is at stake!!)
Basically, thanks to this issue, i've lost all faith in our government, country, political system, media, and even most of our population. Not that i had much faith in any of that left in the first place, but now its just totally gone. When she dies, we will all be Good Little Germans.
"When they came for the Jews, I said nothing. I wasn't a Jew. When they came for the communists, I said nothing. I wasn't a communist. When they came for the trade unionists I said nothing, I wasn't a trade unionist. When they came for me there was no one else left to object."
They are coming for the disabled...who's next?
I was wrong. My little Albatross goes around my neck just as much as it goes around anyone else's. ('cept for our canadian friends i guess).
I cannot express in any number of words the way i feel right now. I feel that this is the darkest moment of this country's history. I feel ashamed to be witnessing it. I feel that this is the breaking point. I think this is the end. We are all slaves. I feel that any of us can now be killed by a judge at any time without cause, and no one will save us. I mean lets face it...We have a case of life and death, with so much doubt that no jury would ever come to a unanimous decision. We have an Executive & Legislative Branch that are both too scared to take on the Judicial when they are acting unconstitutionally. We have one political party who pretends to care about this woman's life, strictly to fire up a sect of their supporters. We have another political party who cares more about making the other guys lose and look stupid than they care about an innocent life being lost. Stuck in the middle are you and I, claiming allegiance to one side or the other, because we have the silly notion that our leaders would act as boldly and with the same good intentions that we ourselves would. In reality we are all marching toward the same dark fate. I thought that when the Republicans passed that bill forcing the courts to re-try the case, that they gave a shit. But they didn't. They're the same as the democrats. They wake up in the morning and ask "How can we fool 'em today?"
Truth is, I love you all, all my fellow countrymen, left or right. I love my fellow man no matter what he says or believes, and I love Terri Schiavo just the same. And I can't save her. You can't save her. No one can. Those who can won't, out of fear of impending inconveniences to their professional lives. If Jeb Bush's political aspirations are more important than a human life, we're doomed.
I'm sorry, i'm totally incoherent here and i'll just leave it at that.
