I almost got into an argument with my brother tonight over this issue. Ignorant, arrogant jerk ticked me off. I can understand someone who doesn't know the facts thinking the tube should be removed. I felt the same way the first time I heard about her a couple of years ago. It's easy to put yourself in her shoes and think, "I wouldn't want to breathe and live if I were brain dead and at someone else's mercy." However, anyone who has taken the time to get the facts should know better. She never signed a legal document stating her wishes; she doesn't need life support, just a feeding tube; her supposedly caring husband refuses to dissolve their marriage despite the fact that he's got a live-in girlfriend who has given birth to two of his kids. I don't trust her husband's agenda. It's not his "wife's" best interest he's after. Beyound that though is the facts of the law. They shouldn't remove her feeding tube; well it's removed all the time; it's only attached when she feeds; so I guess it's more accurate to say they SHOULD reattach her feeding tube; unless there is a legal document signed by her (before she went into the coma of course) stating she would rather starve than live like that. Though being allowed to choose suicide, based on certain criteria, in advance seems strange to me. At least it would be obviously her choice and not just the word of her 'husband' saying it was her choice.

Refusing to even LOOK at the facts because they don't support you argument goes beyond ignorance to stubborn arrogance. You can't argue with people like that. Someone who truly has an open mind will listen; but thouse who claim to be open-minded yet refuse to hear the other side are full of '-it.

Ooops, I got side-tracked. I just wanted to let you know that was well stated. I was relieved and pleased to see someone I know had some sense and was willing to share it. Since, my computer broke down so I haven't been able to read any entries lately; or post anything, of length or significance, in my own journal either.
So, yeah, well-said.

I'm so worn out by this whole thing i'm afraid i can't offer anything else than that. But i know exactly what you're talking about. Some jerk on another website went as far as to GLOAT to me about the fact that the Supreme Court turned down the case. Sick people.
