Well, my housemate and I didn’t end up going to Fed Square, we went to the Mountain View on Bridge Road instead. There were TVs set up everywhere and a huge crowd who seemed to know a lot about soccer, which was good because we’re pretty clueless. I sort of wish we did go into the city, as they had flares, but the pub was probably safer (less chance of catching on fire). But anyway, it was pretty exciting, and confusing, and there was lots of pushing, shoving, swearing, red and yellow cards being waved about, dodgy reff’ing and goals which looked like goals that weren’t paid. I have absolutely no idea what happened in the final seconds but we were sure the ball went into the net, which would have meant a 3-2 victory rather than a draw. But as I’ve said, I’m clueless when it comes to sports, so I’m sure there was some logic or reason beyond my humble grasp behind the decision. Oh, and after that second goal my housemate got lifted up and twirled around by some random guy (she was picked up at the pub, hyuck hyuck!!)
Afterwards, we headed up the road and woofed down a huge breakfast and lots of tea. I’ve had a huge Monster energy drink (seriously, that’s the name of the brand!), many cups of tea, one glass each of coke (blech) and red creaming soda, I reek of cigarette smoke and my throat is sore. I’m all twitchy from all the caffeine, but still a little tired. I think I’ll have a shower and put my PJs on. I’m trying to convince my housemate we should go to Federation Square, or at least to a pub, to watch the next match, but because it’s on during the middle of the night we might just watch it at home. Fooey.
