I’ve been travelling to and from work for a few months now at Flagstaff Station during peak hour, and I’ve noticed a few strange things on my journeys between the aforesaid station and my workplace around the corner on Lonsdale Street. Mornings are definitely the most interesting times, though I have to admit I do miss the true evening peak hour

the amusing adventure is flinders street - u've got the ramp down one end that leads out to the elizabeth street exit or u've got the main way out that involves a five minute wait/wrestle to get up the escalator.
However everyone seems to not notice that theres a staircase in the middle of the platform that leads down to the Degreaves street arcade thingy and a quick exit out to flinders street that only smart ppl seem to know and use.
on the days i'm not half dead i do venture up the stairs all the way from platform 4 (flagstaff) and i deliberately do it from the end that has 2 sets of stairs instead of 1 like the lazy end (which i use on my lazy days)
gets the chest heaving but my ipod gets me thru - however once in line at the ticket machines i'm oblivious to my heavy breating but perhaps i'm scaring ppl in front of them he he
nothing says scary like a heavy breather :P
i just love the politics of public transport - unspoken yes poetic if u stop to think about it.
Did u ever wonder why u end up in the same carriage as the same ppl u saw the day b4 and the day b4 that too? Because they line up which part of the train they have to get on to line up with their favourite stations entrance/exit.
And i love the whole no-one talks thing - i hate when ppl who don't know public transport rules get on and gossip the whole way into the city. completely oblivious to the death glares of the caffeine deprived masses. These individuals usually seem to the Nicole Ritchie/Paris Hilton bug eyed alien monsters of the eastern suburbs.
And of course public transport cannot be complete with out the weird person or two sprinkled in.
My mother just started going to school in the city and got freaked out when a guy just started ramdomly into an evil laugh.
It wasn't the laughing that freaked her out so much as she couldn't believe how everyone just kept going - didn't batt an eyelid even.
I love explaining public transport rules to a rookie, although technically my mum isn't considering she used to work on trams. But then the trams are nothing on the weirdos that seem to get on the belgrave/lilydale line...........
