Man, Krista, you must be tuned into my thoughts somehow. Because I am most definitely writing my essay on Ben Franklin. I'm already 150 pages into the biography. And despite his... seemingly raging, colonial libido, the author tends to focus more on his philosophical and political opinions/actions. Which isn't as interesting.
But Ben did invent swimming fins/flippers.
And lightning rods.
And organize the first public library and the first volunteer fire department.
And he was like the American Hitler... only, he wanted to keep Germans out of America, and feared that the large number of German immigrants would take over the colonies.
And he opposed the influence of proprietors in colonial government (He actually went to London to take the matter up with leading officials... which turned out to be a waste of time.)
And encouraged a union with Britain and called for colonial representation in Parliament.
And he organized a volunteer militia to defend the colonies from French attack during British and French hostilities.
And then later he went to France seeking financial and military aid in the American Revolution.
And he flirted with a girl named Polly during their scientific discussions. Hot.

And, that, my friend, is Ben Franklin in a nutshell.
