Does anyone have any book recommendations?  I know I'll work my way through the library in due course, but one likes to go about these things with a certain sense of direction.

Austin Osman Spare's "Guide to Self Love".

Or the Illuminatus Trilogy

I'm aware that you're probably mocking me, but I read The Eye In The Pyramid a while ago and rather enjoyed it, if only as an exercise in excessive nonsense.

How presumptuous of you! I happen to be of the very firm opinion that Robert Anton Wilson is a genius. The man made paranoia into an art form.

Mark Z. Danielewski's House of Leaves, and The Whalestoe Letters. In that order.

Thank you, Miss Widmore. Might I ask, how are things with you?

Things are better for me now. Certain matters have been cleared up, I came back from port to find a puppy in my room, I have my friends back I got laid...things are just better.

What about you?

Oh, I am pleased to hear that. The mood on board seems to have been a little downheartened lately, so it's good to know that things are looking up for one of us, at least.

I'm...all right, I suppose. Still recovering from the port, if one might be honest; it wasn't the most enjoyable excursion.

I hope you can forgive a stranger for intruding here, but there is, indeed, a library here? Is it available to all?

I wonder what manner of books it contains. Should you find anything sentimental by Howard W. Campbell Jr., studiously avoid it. The rest only serves to illuminate his crimes--the least of them, at least.

But forgive me for going on about myself in your personal space, good sir.

Not at all. There is a library indeed, on Level 5. As far as I am aware, it is open to Inmates and Wardens alike, unless one has been specifically banned from entry - and I hope that nobody has been. A prison this may be, but it would a beastly thing to deny a person the escapes offered by literature.

Rather peculiar of you to direct me away from your own works, if you don't mind my saying so - I did notice the journal entry identifying you with that name.

Excellent, excellent. Thank you for the information.

Now to get down to it, it is neither some sort of trick nor modesty that leads me to direct your attentions elsewhere. My works are things of a pst that is distant and altogether too near. And perhaps in coming here I have started something new...

One can quite easily understand that, Mr. Campbell. I believe that there are plenty of people here who would much rather leave their pasts behind in favour of something more optimistic.
