A/N The title comes from Alan Garner's The Owl Service, which also deals with the Bloddeuwedd myth.
It had been going on for way too long already, before Spike finally managed to get some words out.
"Achoo! Sodding- Achoo! Bloody- Aaah-ah-ah-achoo! Dammit!"
"Don't try to talk. It'll only get worse." Buffy passed him a handful of Kleenex. "I didn't know you got hay fever."
"Ah-ah-," Spike managed to bite back the latest sneeze, sheer fury overcoming his rebel sinuses. "Doesn't usually come up." He paused while another sneeze impulse came and went, leaving him with streaming eyes but no more explosions. "Not like the pollen count's that high at midnight. Not like vampires get bunches of flowers every day, either."
Buffy looked more than a little amused, which made him defensive. "'M fine with grass, anyway. It's only this idiot's bloody flower-woman…"
"Ex, I think." Buffy stirred a toe amid the petals. "Yep. Not a lot of Flower Girl left for him now."
Spike's sniffles were getting under control. His brain was starting to work better. "He should be grateful. This create-a-woman spell stuff never goes well. I think this trope usually ends with him being murdered and her becoming an owl. So really, we did them a favour."
"Owl?" Buffy looked blank. Bloody Americans. Hardly any of them knew the Mabinogion properly.
"Yeah, owl." Spike couldn't be bothered to explain the whole Blodeuwedd thing now. His nose hurt.
Buffy shuddered. "I hate birds. I'm really allergic."
Bugger. Should have waited for that part to kick in. Would have been funnier to have the Slayer do the sneezing.
