Title If You Call Her, She Will Come Author Brutti ma buoni Rating PG13 for violent character death Word Count 215 Prompt 194 (Glory) Characters Ben, Giles
The clinical self-evaluation didn't quite carry through to the logical conclusion, did it? Self-preservation is understandable, but the real hero of the day was able to let that go.
I feel very sorry for Ben. But there are lies in this piece that he's telling himself even as he's dying. And he refers to Dawn too, without really caring. He's not a hero.
Thanks! I sometimes prompt Ben in ficathons, with interesting results. Lunabee once wrote me a great Ben/Xander for maleslashminis which is worth tracking down. He's an interstingly human non-hero.
This was fantastic! One of my favorite Giles moments from a completely different angle. I love that in the end Ben wasn't as redeemable as he seemed in the show. Like you said, he was no hero.
It's so Giles, though, making the hard decision, doing what's needed rather than what might be best for himself...
I feel cheated that we never got to see him tell Buffy about Ben. I was watching the commentery for Lies My Parents Told Me and they evidentally wrote his telling her into the graveyard scene.. and they cut it out!! I literally screamed at the TV!!!!
