Although, his palms were sweaty and his heart was racing he was happy. But he was also very nervous. He couldn't believe he was about to ask out the one woman who'd kept him at arms length for a long time. But he knew that wasn't technically true. He'd kept himself away from her. If only he'd been strong enough, sure enough that she would accept his demon side, he would've asked her out a long time ago.
But none of that mattered now. Today was the day or the night rather that he took matters into his own hands. One Cordelia Chase was going to be his whether she realized it or not.
He cleared his throat, swallowed hard and began to speak. "Cordelia, would you like to have dinner with me tonight?"
Cordy looked Doyle up and down as she pressed a finger to her lips. "I don't know what to say. I..."
Doyle quickly interrupted. He wasn't about to give her time to come up with any excuses. "Just say yes."
"Yes."

The music, or what passed for music these days, was loud, obnoxious and hurt his ears. But none of that mattered the minute he spotted her.
From the edge of the dance floor, he watched as she danced with Faith and the countless, nameless men that surrounded them. Her body moved with a sensuality that promised things, secret things to whomever had the daring to reach for it.
Angel wanted to be the one to reach for her, he was sick and damn tired of playing it safe. He wanted to take her in his arms and never let her go the consequences be damned. But he couldn’t.
Out of the corner of his eye he watched as one of the nameless men wrapped his arms around Buffy and pulled her back close against his body. A surge of white-hot anger shot through him. It took all of his self-control not to rip the man’s head off.
He knew his jealousy was irrational. Buffy loved him and wanted to be with him. She had even tried to talk him into coming dancing with her. But he’d refused. Just the thought of her gyrating against him was enough to send his better judgement packing. Certain things were considered no no’s between Buffy and himself, dancing was definitely one of them. She'd called him a chicken and said that nothing bad could come from just dancing. She’d even hinted he needed to learn to walk on the wild side.
But the threat of Angelus was too real.
Suddenly his attention was caught as nameless guy's hands roamed Buffy’s sides before clutching onto her hips and gyrating against her. That was it. His control snapped. It was bad enough the other man was dancing with Buffy but that didn’t give him the right to touch her. No one had that right. She was his girl! Why should he stand there and watch as every man in the room put the moves on his girl?
A hundred-dollar bill swiftly hidden in the palm of the DJ’s hand insured the next song would be a slow one. Angel didn't care who or what it was just as long as he could hold Buffy in his arms.
Finally the torturous song ended and the slow, sweet mournful sounds of a saxophone filled the room. With determination in every step Angel walked out onto the dance floor. One hard look and everyone surrounding Buffy quickly decided they had an elsewhere to be. As Buffy turned around she was surprised to see him standing directly behind her with a hungry, possessive look on his face. "Angel?”
Without saying a word, Angel slid his arms around her waist and gently pulled her closer to his body.
“What are you doing?"
It didn’t matter how many men had danced with her; she only belonged in his arms. He lowered his head until his lips barely grazed hers before he whispered, "Taking that walk on the wild side."
