She couldn’t breathe. She felt around in her in the dark, fear settling in her stomach. She couldn’t breathe. Why did she have to breathe?
Her hands touched walls all around her, and it was pure instinct that made her punch above her. Pieces of dirt fell into the space she was in.
She still couldn’t breathe.
She struggled her way upwards, clawing through the earth and the stones she encountered. It hurt, but she kept struggling, while more and more fear was building in her stomach. She pulled herself upwards and landed on the earth she had been clawing through.
Finally she could breathe.
She gasped for air while her hands touched around her, trying to get a feel for where she was. It was still dark. There were shouts echoing through the night, clawing at her like she had been clawing at the earth. She could see the reflection of fires in her head.
She closed her eyes for a moment, then turned around. Her eyes were adjusting themselves to the darkness and she realized she was standing on a grave. Her grave. Slowly she closed her eyes again, wishing she could shut her other senses off just as easily.
