A/N Title is taken from the Frankie Yankovic (the Polka King, also from Cleveland) song.

After they moved to the hellmouth in Cleveland, Buffy quickly learned that many of the major events in Cleveland history were caused by demons.

The Cuyahoga River catching on fire was not due to pollution as the popular theory went. It was caused by a demon who was trying to open the hellmouth.

When Art Modell stole the Browns, it wasn’t because he was a money hungry human. He was an empath demon and the meal he got from the uproar of anger and betrayal made it more than worth his while.

And Jim Thome hadn’t been a good old boy from Peoria, Illinois, but a good old demon who loved playing baseball. At least he wasn’t with the Indians anymore.

It seemed to Buffy that demons had been the cause of almost every strange occurrence in the city. Well, according to Giles, every strange occurrence but one.

“Giles, are you sure…” Buffy started to ask for the umpteenth time as Giles looked up from his paper and glanced at her. She stared pointedly at the television screen, where Big Chuck and Little John were happily covering the weekend’s Polka Festival for channel 8 news.

“Buffy, I have told you at least a dozen times. Big Chuck and Little John are attending the Polka Festival of their own free will and are actually enjoying themselves. Lanigan and Malone voluntarily turn top 10 hits into polka songs for their radio show. The Cleveland Polka Association does not brain wash people to join, and the city is proud to be the home of the Polka Hall of Fame. There are absolutely no demonic forces at work here.” Giles explained impatiently.

“But are you absolutely sure? I mean, Sweet…”

“Buffy! They just like polka. That’s all,” Giles uttered in his most exasperated tone of voice.

“Hmph,” Buffy grumbled under her breath as she changed the channel. Demons she could deal with. Polka she just couldn’t. And she had thought Sunnydale was strange.

A/N - Big Chuck and Little John are local celebrities. They host the late Saturday night movie on channel 8, which includes funny skits, contests, and a live audience. They usually show up at local events, including those which involve polka music and dancing. Lanigan and Malone host the most popular morning show in Cleveland on 105.7. One of their contests includes turning hit songs into polkas and having people call in to guess what they are for a prize. And yeah, Clevelanders like polka :)
