After having a conversation with River about Sadie and realizing that it would have to be a waiting game with his pilot, Mal believes it is high time in looks in on Inara.
He reboards Serenity and makes his way to the room Simon moved Inara to. A knock on the door before he pokes his head inside.
"Hey! You're awake." he says somewhat happily and awkwardly at the same time. "Ya mind some company?"
She rested the embroidery down on her lap to look at him. Her heart happily skipped as her stomach sunk. It was an odd sensation to have two strong contradicting feelings happening at once. "Yes Captain" she said with an almost shy nod.
Inara looked down at the embroidery setting it aside before looking at him. She considered her answer for a moment before saying "Like I'm physically on the mend. Simon does good work"
"Your.... you're asking me out?" she confirmed. "Even looking as bad as I do?". She sighed softly "Maybe it'll be better to find someone else to dance with when you're there......" she offered "I don't need pity Malcolm" she smiled softly at him "But I appreciate you care"
"'Nara, it ain't pity....." he starts and with a shake of his head he leans foreword in the chair towards her.
"I meant what I said before. I love you. I ain't goin' anywhere wit'out you an' I sure as Hell don' wanna dance wit' nobody else at th'gorram weddin' either, dong ma?"
The movement of him moving foreward made her head swim alittle, the rush of thoughts making her dizzy and she was glad she'd set the embroidery aside. She looked at him and bit her lip studying his wonderful face. "captain... I..... I don't think I can" she said softly. "It," she looked away from him and down at her lap. "It still hurts to move...... and my heart aches" she murmered softly. "River will dance with you...... she's a fabulous dancer and she'll need a lot of attension" she said. Good idea, switch topic to River. "And she's so beautiful, has she a suitable dress?"
A sigh and he scrubs his face with his hand a moment. "Weddin' ain't fer another three weeks. Ya should be shiny, but than." he protests. "Sides, dancin' an' laughin'll help wit'th'heartache. As fer th'dress dealings? Well, I think th'girls were hopin' you'd help them out in that area."
Inara closed her eyes trying to stop her emotions from battling. The urge to push him away was winning over the holding him near and it was REALLY annoying her. "Sorry Mal" she murmered "My head, heart, and gut are fighting......." she opened her eyes to look at him hoping he understood what he meant. She didn't have her usual control of herself. "I feel a bit..... crazy" she laughed awkwardly. "If you were closer my heart might find it easier to ignore the other two....." she said with a soft tap on the bed.
And she was right, being that close did help her heart push away all of the doubt and fear. She settled down against him, snuggling, letting a hand rest absently on his stomach, oh she liked his stomach, it was a very nice stomach. "Could you take your shirt off?" she then realised she'd actually said that outloud rather than just in her head and she blushed. "It'll help me heal faster" she added with a soft smile.
A chuckle before he takes the hand on his stomach into his and kisses it gently. "I think my shirt c'n stay where it is fer now. Don' wanna give th'Doc a heartattack. Lit'Kaylee'll kill me."
She smiled "Oh you're body is that amazing it would stop poor simons heart?" she said softly. "That idea might upset Kaylee more" she told him feeling so much more relaxed.
Mal chuckles. "Nah, I think th'idea that I was takin' advantage of ya would stop 'is heart more than my amazingly fit an' properly toned body ever could." he states with sarcasm and a smirk.
