Love.
The last time Jaejoong had a taste of it, it was bitter and left a deep wound in his heart. After that, he swore not to be swayed and hooked by love again. But that was his belief then, then… when the wound was still fresh. But now, things have changed.
Yunho… would he be different? Jaejoong asked himself.
He was attracted to the guy that was for sure. He had fun on their date and Jaejoong wouldn’t mind seeing more of the hunky photographer in the coming days. He very much liked him. But like and attraction are very different from love. Although, Jaejoong would admit, that they might lead to love.
If ever that time comes, would my heart be able to open up to him?
The ding of the bell woke Jaejoong up from his thoughts. He turned to see Yoochun entering the bookstore with a frown on his face, something the younger guy had been wearing for a few days now. With a sigh, Jaejoong stood up from his seat and approached his friend.
“Yah, what’s up with you?” he asked, noticing the dark rings around Yoochun’s eyes.
“Nothing,” the younger man grunted. He walked towards the coffee counter on the right side of the store and pulled up a chair.
Jaejoong followed him. He signaled Ryeowook to move to the other counter as he took his place there. He quickly served Yoochun a cup of Espresso.
“Something’s bothering you,” Jaejoong said bluntly as he sat on the chair next to his friend. “I could tell. Your visits here are becoming more frequent.”
“Is it wrong to just drop in to see a friend?” Yoochun answered in a bored tone as he played with his cup of coffee.
Jaejoong rolled his eyes and stayed quiet. He watched as Yoochun’s frown deepened with every second that passed by. Jaejoong shifted in his seat and sighed. Then he got a whiff of something. He leaned in closer to Yoochun as inconspicuously as he can and inhaled. There was that familiar whiff of his aftershave, added with a faint hint of strawberry splash. Jaejoong knew Yoochun didn’t use any strawberry-scented product so it was either his imagination or it may be what he thought it was. Looking again at his younger friend’s expression, Jaejoong figured it was the latter.
“Yah, Yoochun-ah, aren’t you taking it too fast with Hyun Jin-sshi?”
Yoochun froze but tried to act as cool as he possibly could. “What do you mean, hyung?” he asked coldly.
“You know what I mean. You slept with her. I can smell her perfume off of you.”
The younger man looked down and pursed his lips. “It’s just perfume. It may have rubbed off on me when we hugged earlier.”
“Yah, that’s not all. I can tell just by looking at you. There’s no point in lying to me, Yoochun.”
“Fine. I slept with her,” Yoochun answered coolly though his nostrils were flaring due to annoyance. “So? There’s nothing wrong with that. We’re together, it’s normal.”
Jaejoong looked at him disapprovingly. “You two started dating just a few days ago. And it’s wrong when you sleep with her when you have someone else in your mind.”
Yoochun didn’t answer him. He kept his gaze down, glaring at the cup of Espresso in front of him. Jaejoong could see the younger man’s hands tightening into balled fists.
“I’m sorry, Yoochun-ah. I’m merely saying this as a friend. Don’t use Hyun Jin-sshi. She didn’t do anything to you. You’ll both be hurt if you keep doing this.”
There was silence for a moment or two before Yoochun finally looked up at him. His expression was calmer now. He couldn’t stand getting angry at Jaejoong. After all, what he said was somehow true.
“Hyung…” he spoke softly. “I can’t seem to get over him. And it hurts, knowing that he can never have feelings for me… Hyun Jin… I don’t want to hurt her. But I want her to make these feelings go away. Hyung, is that selfish of me?”
Yoochun looked up hopefully at his hyung. Jaejoong merely sighed.
“You know the answer to that. I suggest you think things through, Yoochun-ah.”
“I don’t know what to think anymore, hyung,” Yoochun sighed. He took his phone out from his pocket, fumbled with the keys a few times then showed it to Jaejoong.
The older man took the phone and saw a dating website. His eyes scanned the webpage for a few minutes before handing the phone back to Yoochun. “This cannot be Junsu.”
“It’s him,” the younger man said defiantly.
“Yah, Yoochun-ah, don’t be like that. We’ve known Junsu for years. You know he won’t do anything like this. There has to be a mistake.”
Yoochun let out what sounded like a scoff. “Yeah right,” he said, standing up. “You know hyung, I don’t think I know Junsu that well anymore.”
“You don’t really believe that.” It wasn’t a question. Jaejoong was serious. And it was true, though Yoochun was in no mood to admit it. Things were just too confusing for him right now.
“Thanks for the coffee, hyung, but I better get going now,” the younger man said before marching towards the door and storming out of the bookstore.

“Well, thank you for finally taking it down,” Junsu said through his office’s phone. “But I’d like to know who placed that ad in the first place.”
“I’m sorry sir,” the man from the other line said nervously. Junsu could hear papers shuffling in the background and several voices that sounded panicky. “But we only knew him as Kim Junsu.”
“I’m Kim Junsu!!! And I certainly know that I did not place that ad. I could sue you for this!” he said in harsh demanding voice, albeit a little uncertain if he can really sue them or not. Still, Junsu really wanted to know who would want to ruin his life and would do just anything to achieve it.
“Sir, please don’t.”-With that Junsu smiled a little-“We’ll do a more in-depth check. Please wait a moment longer. We’re checking on the credit card that was used.”
There was a pause and Junsu was sure he had been put on hold. He gritted his teeth and just glared at the door as he waited.
Whoever placed that thing to taint my name would be dead! He thought.
But then it hit him. Taint his name…
There was only one person who hated Kim Junsu that much. The only one who he was sure would go to great length just to trash his reputation. The only one who would want him out of the picture from this magazine.
Why didn’t I realize it before?
Without waiting for the man to get back to him, Junsu quickly slammed the phone down and bolted out of his office.

When Yunho finally found Changmin later that night, the younger man was drowning himself in a numerous bottles of soju, red wine, vodka and whatever else there was. The photographer spent a great deal of time trying to talk some sense into the guy-about all of Junsu’s explanation (Yunho actually regretting even doubting his friend in the beginning, he knew he had let his past memory got the best of him)-and when he finished, Changmin finally showed signs of being rational.
“Are you sure it’s not a lie, hyung?” Changmin whined, voice not as slurry as it was fifteen minutes ago.
“Yes. Now, please, stop this,” Yunho said, struggling to get Changmin to stand on his own two feet. The older man took out his wallet, got a number of bills and placed it in front of the bartender. The guy behind the counter nodded before Yunho placed his wallet back into his pocket. He then straightened Changmin up and helped the latter walk out of the bar.
“Hyung…” Changmin whimpered as he clung to the older man.
“Aish, Changmin-ah, it’s not like you to get drunk like this. Let’s get you home.”
They went to Yunho’s car that was parked just on the corner of the street (Changmin puked on the way and the older man hoped to the high heavens he won’t puke in his car). Yunho carefully guided Changmin to the backseat and then moved to climb into the driver’s seat.
“Hyung…” Changmin murmured as Yunho started the engine. “Are you sure about that?”
“Yes, I’m sure.”
“Ohh… Then I have to call… call him. Tell him I’m sorry.”
Changmin moved, trying to look for his cellphone but could barely kept his eyes opened any longer.
“Yah, Changmin-ah, do that tomorrow when you’re sober. For now, just rest.”
“But…” Changmin tried to retort but exhaustion was overtaking him. “But…” he repeated in a softer tone. His breathing got slower and when Yunho looked at him again through the rearview mirror, he knew that Changmin was finally asleep.
The older guy shook his head as he gazed back onto the road. It was the first time Changmin had done this, getting drunk due to depression was something new to the younger guy. Yunho knew he was to blame for this. He shouldn’t have involved Changmin in something like this. He should have kept a keener eye on him. He should have been the big brother he had promised Changmin he would be. But what’s done was done.
As Yunho pulled up into a curb outside Changmin’s house, he promised himself he would do a better job at keeping an eye out for Changmin.
