I really…can't write lately. The vague idea for this has been simmering for a while thanks to a comment by
aegistheia. I have more I want to write in this universe but I don't know when I'll get to it. I don't know if it's burn out or true block but either way, I want to work through it even if it means spending more time with the AUs I have.

Blah,blah,blah,
A Divine Truth
He doesn't realize that it bothers Nino until Nino tells him.
It's not because he doesn't recognize it-because he does, he can see that something is eating him-but because he doesn't understand it. He can't understand the why of it.
They're in the park near Nino's building. It's a great hangout for the pushers and users but it's also a nice place for some quiet and some greenery. Sprawled out under a tree, hiding in the shade from the sweltering heat, Sho is drowsing and he barely notices when Nino touches his face. "Life," he whispers.
Sho opens one eye to see Nino looking with great concentration at the tattoo. Sometimes Sho can't remember what he looks like without it. "Yes," he says, closing it again. He opens both eyes after a minute, feeling Nino's stare as much as his touch. "Nino?"
Nino is looking at him, torn and conflicted and confused. Sho waits. "I don't know," Nino says at last. "I don't-I know you don't mind about me and Satoshi."
"I like him," Sho puts in. He does. The deal is still in place but he honestly likes Satoshi. He's got a good soul, for a demon.
"-yeah," Nino says. "And I know that you-with Aiba-chan and with Jun-kun."
Sho isn't sure what it is, but he knows that he has a 'that with Aiba-chan and with Jun-kun' at the very least. "Yes." He's not sure where this is going. "Does it bother you?"
"No." says Nino. "Yes," he corrects. "I don't know."
Oh, Nino. "Oh, Nino," he sighs. It's warm out, too warm, but he sits up and puts his arms around Nino. "You're my-" he starts.
"I know!" Nino bursts out. He looks upset, heartbroken. "I know I'm your…okay, it just sounds gay to say 'grace', but when you say it you mean 'everything'. And I."
Sho hugs him tighter and feels Nino give up and lean against him. "You love Satoshi," he finishes. "You little idiot." He kisses the top of Nino's head. "Where the will of God ruled now finds your footsteps," he says. "The direction of them is the way I want to go. No matter where they lead."
"That's not it," Nino whispers. Sho finds himself pushed back, away, and Nino's eyes are searching his. "I love you, you know that, right?"
Oh, his heart. "Yes."
"I mean," Nino goes on. "I mean. I argue with you all the time. You tell me don't and I do it anyhow. You get this-" he makes a motion with his hands that Sho understands to mean his wings, his tattoo, his human love. "And I nearly die because some incubus is my type. And then I keep seeing him and you have to-you all have to, but because you-"
"Nino," Sho tries to interrupt.
"But I love you," Nino says desperately. "Not like Satoshi or Aiba or like my mom or my sister but it's kind of all of those things. I would give you back heaven if I could. If I could do it now without ruining everything, I would. Even if it meant not seeing you. Maybe even if it did ruin everything, if I could know that you were happy-" Nino's voice cracks on the word and Nino is red-faced with embarrassment and stricken.
"Dummy," Sho sighs. He wraps his wings around them so that Nino can hide.
"Sometimes I think about it," Nino says, calm inside the protection of Sho's wings, the impenetrable shield of Sho's divinity, his love. "I know I'm just one guy, but for me this life is my whole world and you gave it to me. You take care of it for me, in little ways like buying more cereal and big ways like making sure I don't-. You just love me and I never say anything. I want you to know. That I do. More than anybody else, maybe."
His heart. "You don't have to say anything for me to know," Sho tells Nino. He can feel the place his golden feather used to be, a place both empty and full. A missing piece, a found piece in another place. "You trust me," he explains, knowing how Nino won't settle for less than certainty, than knowing. "When you need something, you turn to me and-"
"It's not-!" Nino starts to protest.
"Shut up," Sho says, hugging him close, wings sweeping tighter against him. "When you need somebody, I'm always the first person you come to because you trust me. And that's rare, Nino, the rarest thing about you. Anybody can make you smile, anybody can be in on one of your pranks, but nobody gets your trust without you loving them first." He pushes Nino back enough so that he can look him in the eyes. "I get to make you smile and I get to help you prank and you tease me awfully and I'm the one you turn to first. Always." And if the day ever comes when he's not the first, that's all right too.
He'd always shared Nino, in the times before Nino had seen him. It is more than he'd ever really dreamed of to be living beside him. It is a gift to have Nino love him in return even for a moment, let alone all these months and years. One day he'll watch Nino slip away from this world and leave his side but he thinks that the way Nino's soul and Nino's love reaches for him will never leave him. He smiles and tips his forehead to Nino's. "You love me and I know it, okay?"
Nino nods against him, eyes locked with Sho's. For a long time they're just quiet and breathing and Sho is quietly basking in the fact that Nino wanted him to know. "Sho?" Nino says into their silence.
"Hmm?"
"This is really gay."
Sho turns Nino out of his arms and out of his wings, back into the bright sunlight and summer heat. "You started it."
"You did," Nino returns, flopping back on the ground. "Why is it so hot? Fan me!"
"No." Sho smiles and flops down next to Nino, getting comfortable on his stomach as his wings lift, rising and falling and making a lazy breeze. "You did," he says softly. He thinks that Nino is possibly the start of everything.
