That said: This is for aeslis. Because she gave me the prompt of Nino/MatsuKen; Matsuken attempting to pay Nino back somehow for the cakes.

I should be sleeping

"What the hell?" Nino muttered, sitting up at the sound of clanging in his kitchen. "I swear to god, Jun, if you're cleaning in there…" He threw back his sheets and went to investigate.

The first thing he saw when he entered his kitchen was a butt. Not Jun, then. "Oh, god, please don't be Aiba," he moaned, leaning against the door.

"Huh? No, I sent him home." Matsuyama Ken'ichi straightened and gave him a ghost of a smile. "I woke you?"

"Break-ins tend to do that," Nino yawned at him, bemused. "Why are you here?"

As though in answer, the oven timer went off. Ken'ichi brightened. "I made you-" he turned and Nino admired the view as the other man opened his oven. "SHIT."

"Nice," Nino deadpanned as the fire alarm sounded and the apartment filled with smoke. "Who doesn't enjoy a good fire?"

Matsuyama stayed to reassure the building superintendant that it was all his fault and apologized to everybody personally. Nino went to work in the middle of it. "Eh?" said Ohno in the company car, looking at the chaos.

"Co-workers," Nino answered with a shrug, shutting the door behind himself.

"Sorry about the noise. But I really worked on it this time," Ken'ichi told him when he shuffled out to his kitchen at midnight not even a week later. "I went over everything from last time and I-"

"You set my dishtowel on fire," Nino observed, shuffling back to bed.

"Holy shit!"

In the end, Nino was forced to evacuate along with everybody else. "What?" asked Sho, leaning out of the van to stare at Nino as he slouched over. "Is everybody okay?"

Nino shrugged. "I think MatsuKen is checking on that," he said, flopping into Sho's lap and nudging the door shut with his foot.

"I swear," Ken'ichi yelped as the fire alarm woke Nino for the third straight night.

Nino just grabbed his jacket, put on his shoes, and ushered the other man out the door, and let the billowing smoke trail them out. "Let's go meet the neighbors in the parking lot again," he suggested kindly.

"Is this going to happen every day?" the driver of the company car asked as he maneuvered them out of the safety blockade set up around Nino's building.

"Probably?" Nino hazarded.

"I had them disconnect the fire alarm in here," Nino said, opening the door at two a.m. and letting Ken'ichi in. "Do-well, do whatever it is you're trying to do in here." He frowned around a yawn. "What are you doing in here, anyhow?"

Ken'ichi gave him a sheepish smile, hands behind his back. "You made me a cake. From scratch. So I've been trying to give you a return."

Nino blinked. And then blinked again. "Oh."

Ken'ichi smiled a little more, though it looked a bit more forced. "Sorry if that's weird."

"No weirder than me making you birthday cake," Nino said after a moment. "I lied, it's weirder. You keep setting my house on fire."

"Sorry about that," he apologized again.

Nino waved him off. "I could have changed the locks after Aiba gave you that key. C'mon, I'll teach you how to make a cake and then we can make out."

"I bought a cake," Ken'ichi confessed, bringing a bakery box out from behind his back.

"Oh." Nino considered it, lifting the lid to peek in at the chocolate cake inside. "Go set it in the kitchen and let's make out now."

"How does that even happen?" Ken'ichi asked as they shivered in the parking lot together.

"I have no clue," Nino said as he slung an arm around him "but I think I love you."
