I just had dinner with my cousin and her family. I have not seen her in about 20 years. We met up at a resteraunt in St. Petersburg beach, and I had to scan the croud for someone I haven't laid eyes on in close to two decades. Luckily, her husband is Indian. That's India, Indian, not Native American. That, coupled with the fact that she had two kids, helped me pick them out from across the room after about 5 mins of going room to room. She was facing the other way (helping her daughter) at the time, so I was a little nervous that it wasn't them. But then she turned her face up and the old memories clicked instantly. It was her all right.
We had a wonderful dinner and I loved her family. My mom nonchalantly told me the names of her kids when we spoke earlier on the phone. She just wanted to make sure I knew. I am glad she did, because I remember the daughter's name, Connie, because she is named after my aunt. But then my mother told me Paul's name (PJ actually). I have 537 cousins and now cousins with kids...It's just too much.
Her husband, Laddy, is a police officer up in Jacksonville. He was on the A taskforce, but has just been promoted and will now be doing desk database work. A little easier on the family. My cousin, Rachel, is starting a business as a wedding coordinator. I am going to give her a little web and advertising help. The kids are very cute. Connie is 4 and PJ is 3. PJ was a little shy at first, but it didn't take him long to come around. Connie and I told elephant jokes back and forth, and looked at her My Little Pony coloring book.
The thing is, they only live about 4 hours away, and they have been coming down to St Pete Beach to a timeshare every year. We just never got together. That is all changing now.
My cousin Travis works as head of security at one of the hottest clubs in Jacksonville. That means VIP treatment if I ever wannt to go. Anyone want to take a four hour trip to go clubbing? Well, maybe later.
Travis just kicked cancer's ass. He was diagnosed with John Hopkin's disease and through chemo and radiation was cleaned out.
My other cousin, Andy, is married and has a kid and does something with computers.
Now that we are back in touch, we will be getting together as often as we can. It will be nice to spend a weekend up there and get reacquainted with the family.
