I have seven bridesmaids; I can pull a ROY G. BIV thing with their bouquets for this, since I just realized something in the wee small hours of this morning:
Our wedding will be on Memorial Day weekend in Pensacola.
Ordinarily, this would provide sufficient commotion for the simple fact that folks like to vacation here because the beaches are beautiful and it's way cheaper than south Florida. Memorial Day wkend is a high-traffic time for all of PCola (as is Independence Day wkend, Labor Day, etc.).
In Pensacola, however, this is an especially fragile date, since apparently, every Mem. Day wkend is GAY PRIDE WEEKEND.
It's not just local, either; this thing's gone national. I know for a fact there's a biker's parade downtown somewhere every year, and people come from all over the US for the event....
Here's the link for just a few of this year's festivities:
http://www.memorialweekendpensacola.com/ The problem here is, the best hotels in PCola are going to book up, FAST -- faster than they would on a normal summer weekend, and faster than ever even for a holiday weekend. I wanted to put most of the folks in the newly-renovated (after its destruction in Hurr. Ivan in 2004) Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown PCola, walking distance from the Church, bars, downtown/Seville Square, etc., but it occurs to me that it's also walking distance from Emerald City (a nod to Judy Garland?), which is the gay bar in town (I hear Fri nights are Couples'/Swingers' Nights). My concern is strictly accommodation-based, I assure you, LOL.
But, the deposits are in (some of them, anyway, and they're non-refundable), the date is set (it's bad luck to change the date once it's set), and we'll push forth with the wedding as planned. Perhaps Harvey Fierstein can officiate...?
And it will be FAAAAAAAAAABuloussssss!
