Cash Wednesday

Um, ok, so this wedding budget thing?  Yeah -- now I'm broke, at least until I get my paycheck next week.  This totally blows.

Next week = CARNIVAL CRUISE, baby!!!  Jason wants to scuba-dive in Cozumel ('cause we don't live on the Gulf Coast??? Hellooooo?), and I want to see the remnants of the post-classical Mayan city-state that was based in the north of the island (there must be SOMETHING there...!).  I'm a nerd and I love -- nay, I DIG -- archaeology.

Got my ashes today at a Church in Mobile, the only one I could find having a full Mass at 12 today.  This negates my back-up plan, which was to leave work by 4 so I could get to St. Michael's in PCola by 5:30 for the no-Mass ash distribution -- or, as Father Pete calls it, "The Ash-n-Dash."  But that would've left me 90 minutes before having to go back there for Choir practice, so I elected to do the lunch thing here instead.

Salmon from a bag, with some crackers, for lunch.  And now, some fiending for chocolate.

Heard on CNN this morning that some fish, including grouper (VERY popular in PCola), caught in the northern Gulf of Mexico (as in, HERE) have been ingeseting some sort of algae which, when later ingested by humans, causes vertigo and nausea, among other discomforts.  Excellent timing, what with Lent starting today, and Catholics all over consuming more fish for Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays between now and Lent.

In other news... I forget.

Luckily, no tornadic activity in or near Mobile or PCola yesterday or today, so that's good.  Despite that we have a generator and aren't really close to any dangerous water (the bayou is not dangerous to us at all), I'm not too confident about this summer's hurricane season (not just the summer; it doesn't end until Dec. 1st).  But we were spared a lot of stormage last year, so I worry we'll get our asses handed to us this time around.  Hoping not....

Learned yesterday that the Marines accepts Officers as Reservists now (used to be an officer would have to be active-duty for 4 years before becoming a reservist.  Not, just like with enlisted folks, you can become a reservist immediately after completing all of your training... which, I grant you, is about a year's worth of schooling/OCS, but still... it allows me to take a killer job in DC and continue grad school, and if I deploy, I can just put it all on hold with no repercussions... as opposed to taking a 65% pay-cut to become a full-time officer for 4 years).  So that's a gem of good news!!

Back to work for now....
