I keep thinking back to what I was up to around this time last year...
As much as I hated classes at Reitaku, I really do miss being there sometimes. I just keep thinking back to these lazy afternoons I would spend sitting under the big trees listening to the semi (I don't know what the word for them is in English--cicadas maybe?) chirp away....
Bike rides to school every morning, passing by the children on their way to Kashiwa Elementary SChool #3, greeting policemen with a nod, biking past Kashiwa Reysol Stadium....people walking their dogs
Saying hello to the neighbors who thought it was so quaint that there was an American in their midst...
Kuro-chan, mother making shumai and potstickers with me...
road trips to the Japan alps, hotsprings resorts, snow in May, walking around Kusatsu, fluffy futons in which I took countless naps
TIny ass roads and cars with bad drivers...
climbing a mini mountain that was muddy and snowy at the same time, Japanese girls in heels climbing up said mountain to see a lake that was amazingly AQUA colored.
barbequed scallops on the tiny lawn, dad taking me for walks around the neighborhood. Kaoru playing the same music over and over, all the men in the family wearing tracksuits the moment they got home
Dad going to work in his suit, walking home with me from the station.
Kasumi supermarket, Minami Kashiwa station and it's cute little ekimae area....Kashiwa station and it's huge malls and all the things to do...
Quick trips to Tokyo to buy stupid things, running around everywhere and anywhere....
But most of all I just miss Reitaku's campus and hikarigaoka. so beautiful, almost like a postcard from the 50s. I'd give anything to go back and visit right now.
I never thought I'd say this, but I miss Japan.
