Notes: This was written for the first half of the two week amnesty period at Fullmoon Ficlet, for the prompts of Fate and Second Chances. I wanted to write something that kind of reflected the year for me, angsty but hopeful that (somehow!) the next year will be better. As we stare down the barrel of 2017 beginning, I think we need a little hope. It was also inspired by this story I saw pass by on Facebook, about a soldier’s remains, and those who accompanied him and eased his way. I’m sorry for the angst, but it really does have a happy ending.
