I recieved a postcard today. A Christmas card, to be more exact. And there is something special with this card!
Even though it was mailed by Paulien, a friend of mine who lives in the same country, in December, it only arrived today. Why? Because this card went on a airplane trip around the world.
The minute I saw the enveloppe, I noticed something odd about it. My address was written with a black marker, but someone else'd written 'The Netherlands' under it. A different, unfamiliar handwriting. A different pen was used. The Dutch Christmas stamp wasn't stamped or marked. I turned the enveloppe to see who'd send me the card but I all I saw was stamps. Two stamps to be exact.
The stamps say:
Cedar Rapids
Jan
18
PM
2005
524
Wait! Cedar Rapids, IOWA??!!"
Yes.
It's weird. You only hear stories like this ("postcard arrives 50 years late") and you never think it happens to you. But it did: somehow Paulien's card got on a plane. It ended up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in the United States. At the other side of the world, at the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. And because of a friendly person living in CR, IA it arrived at the right address today, only one month late.
Thank you friendly person living in Cedar Rapids, Iowa :)
