final project
i'm kicking around an idea for my final project in 2-d design. it goes like this:
1.i record hundreds and hundreds of 1 second clips. all one syllable. different inflections and whatnot for each. silences thrown in there too.
2.i put them in an ordinary itunes library.
3.i have the listener listen to a sampling of the syllables, and rate each, 0-5 stars, according to whatever criteria they fancy in their heads.
4.then i make a smart playlist, adding different preferences regarding which clips should come up more often (using the star rating).
5.then we hit randomize. producing a string of nonsense, that may or may not sound like it could be language.
each time it is unique to the listener, but also personalized, based on their ratings. it's like the opposite of a roller coaster. fairly random and open, with an individual experience.
and possibly a second station, where the listener can dramatically alter the EQ on the sound, producing varying results.
