quick, brief, concise

i've been asked for an update regarding my past weekend in montauk. this will be quick, because i have to catch a train to jamaica in an hour, and i'm not really ready to go yet.

so yeah, montauk. :)

it's been a family tradition since way before i was even a glimmer in this vast universe. my mom used to go out with all of her siblings, her parents, her grandparents. as such, my immediate family has always gone out to the east end for at least 2 weeks each summer, usually in august as a last hurrah of summer vacation. this year was no different, mom and dad headed out two weeks ago and have been living it up beach style.

now, as we kids got older, we were typically allowed to invite a friend out for a couple of days. i've brought many a buddy to the east end beaches over the years, but the past couple of years have been fantastic because i've been able to introduce non-islanders to the very chill atmosphere of The End.

this year was liz's 2nd time in montauk! woot. she flew down thursday night, i swung by jfk to pick her up, we hit the diner (it's becoming a tradition in its own right - pickle!), and then we hauled ass out east. figured it would be easier to drive late thursday night than try to battle ALL of the island heading there on friday AM/PM. a good plan indeed. an hour and a half later, we arrived to the comfort of the condo, complete with inflated air mattresses with montauk sweatshirts and girly straw cowboy hats placed carefully on our pillows, along with individual little notes that said "welcome to montauk!". i love my mom. we crashed and slept to the sound of the rolling atlantic.

so we had 3 full days of fun in the sun. friday we laid on the beach for a few hours, splashed in the ocean a bit and then headed to town to wander. the 'rents treated us to dinner at a new restaurant that boasts some of the most gorgeous sunsets around. they aren't kidding. afterwards we chilled and relaxed at the condo, and slept another peaceful night. saturday was much of the same, although liz and i both managed to score some killer sunburn (in strategic places). later in the afternoon we again headed to town for the art show, where we were seriously impressed with some of the talent there, and i purchased two lovely photographs of the beach. mom cooked a mean supper, and we headed to the docks for wandering and ben & jerry's. more fantastic sleep followed. sunday we decided to forego the wrath of the sun and give our skin a day to stop whimpering, and instead drove to bustling east hampton to window shop (complete with an ice cream lunch), and then to amagansett to browse some more. rummy was played, nibbles were consumed, dinner was delish.

on monday morning, mom made us french toast, we loaded up my funmobile and headed back west to grab some lunch, hit the airport, and liz flew back to the ends of the earth...er, buffalo.

it was very, very good times. punctuated by some very, very interesting conversations that included a surprise wedding and my mother's heel in our faces.

i miss my liz. :-P

and the title of this entry is really a lie, as this became way more than i initially intended. ah well. i must depart and prepare myself for astoria this evening. ta for now.

this weekend - vegas baby!
