Mary Rosalie Armes Hogg, age 82, passed away on April 15, 2008 after an eight month illness. Mary was born in State College, Centre County, Pa. on April 15, 1926. She was the daughter of Monroe Jason Armes and Fredda Violetta Gavitte Armes. Mary graduated in 1944 from State College High School and received a B.S. degree in Architecture from Pennsylvania State University, where she had the distinction of being the only female member of the Class of 1948, College of Architecture. Mary worked as an architect for Boyd Kapp in State College and Howard & Murphy in Butler, and later designed several homes in Slippery Rock and New Wilmington. She taught Art in the Slippery Rock Elementary and Middle Schools for 34-1/2 years before retiring in 1993. Mary was a member of the National and Pennsylvania State Education Associations and the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. She was a long-time member of the Butler County Associated Artists and the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts in New Castle, and served on the Board of the Music & Arts Festival while it was held at Armco Park.
