I had a few tickets to see Borat the movie last night, so I called up some people and met at the theatre a little after 7 (it was supposed to start at 8, and I was coming straight from a lecture at the Harn or I'd have been there earlier) and to my dismay, there was already a HUGE line. I wait there with Aisha for a bit and eventually adam, mason, and patrick show up and we start our long haul of a wait in line. Eventually, they start letting people in, and the lady that was counting people stopped the line literally 2 people before our group. Those two people left right away and probably snuck into the theatre. Which left us, at the front of the line, possibly not going to get in at all. This is around 7:30, so we have another half hour to find out if indeed there are no seats left. No one from the theatre has come to tell us anything, so at about ten 'til I go inside and ask the manager what the deal is.
"I'm afraid its all full."
"So...you guys aren't letting anyone else in at all?"
"No, I'm afraid not."
Rejected.
I go back outside and tell my compatriots the bad news, but we all decide to wait until 8 just in case. Just then, the lady that had been policing the line comes outside, goes to the middle of the line and announces that all the seats are full, and that she's very sorry. We almost lose it. So close, but just not close enough. I start to walk away, but she makes her way to where we are and asks how many people are in our group.
"Five"
She looks at us for a little bit and eventually says: "Okay. Just you five. Come with me."
So we walk in, and get some pretty decent seats too. The movie's really great. Its hard to tell what's staged and what isn't, which was really interesting, and it kept me either wincing or laughing the whole time, which is all you can really hope for, I suppose.
