Fun Things

Yesterday was a fun relaxing day. I slept in until around 8am (that's really late for me!)...got online, piddle around. I went to the Farmers' Market with my roommate Laci!!! at 11am and it was so nice to spend time with her! I ended up buying too much, which makes me kick myself because I decided not to take a trip to Washington over Labor Day so I could save money, but a plane ticket was only $200 round trip to Seattle, and I spent $70 at the market...that's a third! Anyway, I spent $55 on these amazing chemical free candles that are made purely from coconut oil and essential oils...they smell delicious and last forever, so it was worth it. My original intent was to buy them for my mom since our bird Pigwidgeon can only be around soy candles or chemical free candles. I also bought green beans, cherries, Siberian garlic, zucchini, yellow squash, blueberries, and honey butter. That slashes a few things off my grocery list anyway!

After the market, Laci and I went home and talked for a few hours, which was great. We also squealed over all the dead bugs in our house, since we just had the house and foundation sprayed, and will again in two weeks. It's SO gross!

Around 3pm I went to Eric's to play a game, and then Blair picked me up and we went to Fashion Place mall to shop. :) I tried to spruce up her marriage but she didn't want to risk comfort and functionality for fun at Victoria's Secret. ;) Then I dragged her to Nordstroms where there were far too many men acting like women. I was tempted to splurge and buy these fabulous Dior sunglasses, or maybe even a pair of Fendi, but that would've put me at "I may as well have bought a plane ticket"...and I really don't have a reason to splurge. They were, in my defence, around 50% off and near $100.

I went back to Eric's to finish the game, and then decided last minute to go with his roommate Raphael (who has called me Rachel since the day I met him) to the movies to see Dark Knight. Originally I wasn't going to go, and then Raph was being all funny and saying "then I have to go alone, and see all the boyfriends and girlfriends, and talk to myself"...hahah so he won me over and I went even though he saw it the night before, too. The showing we went for at 8:50 was sold out so we got tickets for 9:40 and sat in line for over an hour so we could get good seats. I got an icee and Raph is a hungry boy trying to gain weight, and he got two icees and two hot dogs! Funny kid. Well...the movie. It was good, and I really do think all the actors did pretty well, but honestly I think they hype was mostly built up just because of Heath Ledger. Heath did AMAZING as the joker, though I would've liked to see more scenes with him! And of course, I love Christian Bale, but the same scenario. I was disappointed because a lot of the pictures I saw weren't even in the movie, and the plot seemed like...well, like there wasn't too much. The whole movies followed the comics, no doubt...Joker vs. Batman...but I didn't feel like anything significant was developed in the plot. It was still enjoyable. Maybe I was just tired, as I nodded off for brief seconds. I'll have to see it again to pick up on the things I was confused about. But yes, Heath Ledger was amazing as The Joker...you don't see Heath, you see The Joker.

And now here I am. Today will be church, and possibly going to see Pete since he's going to Alaska tomorrow for six weeks for rotations for med school! Probably won't end up seeing him, so if anyone is up for anything, holler! :)

simple pleasures, friends
