For this past Rosh HaShanah, the rabbi asked us to think about one mitzvah we would like to take on in the coming year. I decided I would start wearing a tallit. I just realized it's been almost a year and I still haven't! I don't know if it's really time for me, actually, as I'm going most frequently to a shul to which I'm new, and in which only about 1-2% of the women wear one. I'm just not sure I want to draw attention to myself like that (says the woman who flashes tattoos, and sits in the balcony and nurses her 2-year-old without a second thought!). Just in case, though, I want to buy one. I can't spend a lot, and I want something similar to one I saw during HHD services. It was white, NOT SHINY, and looked to be either cotton or maybe very lightweight wool. The not shiny part is key - it had a very "earthy" vibe to it, but was traditional enough that it wouldn't scream "rebel" any more than I already do and yet really only the tzitzit gave it away as a tallit. I'm not describing this very well, but can anyone point me in the right direction?
