This was in response to a comment in my last post. The situation (which wasn't really a situation, but a misunderstanding of a multispecific nature) has since been resolved, but this is just good stuff.

Racism is different from racial discrimination and that's what I'm trying to stress. In the grand scheme of things, no one should use slurs. Ultimately the answer is to end the use of any hate motivated monikers, however, we're nowhere NEAR being to the point where that's possible.
And it doesn't matter what role black people play in it because we don't hold the power. White people inflict racism on minorities, black people lash out and retaliate with forms of racial discrimination, but it doesn't have nearly the effect.
If White people said, "well if black people would stop saying it then we'll stop saying it." then you still end up with a system where white people are in complete control. Y'all are stubborn (;-p) so I don't see the exchange that is needed happening.
It's about degrees, and whitefolk discriminating against minorities is far more of a issue in terms of getting this country on track then minorities using them amoungst themselves or against white people.
Let's use TWoP as the perfect example. LEt's say Miss Alli has ranted off about Randal and banned 15 members because of his win. Those banned go to the Alli sucks site and sprout off at the mouth about her. Ultimately, as long as Alli is in cohouts with the top 3 nothing that any of us posters do is going to overthrow her. It's up to her to reinstate those memberships and apologize and do right for any real change to take place.
Black people can do everything in our power to make things better, and we do a lot, but ultimately it's up to white people to take that extra step in shedding off comfort zones and previous conceptions and stepping up to do what's right by minorities. And it's a job you can't push off because "They're not my ancestors" or "Well I'm not like that". You have to take responsibility for how racism has effected you (and I guarantee you that it has, positively or otherwise) and realize that the fact you have that as an option puts you ahead of the race.

And regardless of whether black people hold that power, using racial slurs or being racist doesn't help stop racism, and can only hurt it. I'm not saying that this is at all comparable in scope to any person using the n-word or the institutionalized racism prevalent throughout society, particularly in the legal system, but regardless of all of that - independent of all of that - it's still bad.
I push off nothing, but if I'm going to fight racism, I'm going to do it with everyone, and not let people off the hook because I had it coming or it's understandable. It's not going to be something I'm going to get into a fistfight over (unlike a white guy saying something to a black guy, which I have), but I don't think it's reasonable of me to let it slide either.
I have the option to let it go or not, and I'm choosing to not let racism slide. You have that option too, and it's not just racism against you that you can let slide or not.

And that sucks, and it doesn't help, but it's the reality of the thing. Give blacks a pass on cracka and whitey because that's the only ground we have. And when we get to a point that your side is cleaned up, then come yell at us about it, but until then, let us have it and fight some bigger battles, because this argument will still be there, trust.
