Take deep breaths...

So its finally happened! A person that is worthy and intelligent won the presidency, as he should. This election did something that I didn't think was completely possible, it restored some of my faith in American voters, that perhaps America will have my respect again. And sure, alot of the country didn't vote for Obama, and that's okay, it still means that the majority did. That there are millions of people out their that are as sick as me of the fear mongering republican politics, and the archaic ideas of the Bush administration. American shouldn't be a nation afraid of change, and we shouldn't be waiting for international/national crisis to push us into changing. We should be the nation that leads the way, sets the precedent for other countries to follow. For example:

Why wouldn't we want universal health care? Does it take some of your money? Yes. But look at the trade off! I hate living in the country were the medical industry is in business, when medical care should be a right. It seems silly to think that we readily let our fellow citizens succumb and suffer from not only preventable disease, but that we let our hospitals compete with one another. It's disturbing to me that medicine would be expected to stay in business, and personally I wouldn't want to have to compromise my medical care for the sake of cutting costs. How can we let children go without health care because their parents cannot provide it, to me that is so negligent. Why should this be something to fear? We are part of a system that has so many other things socialized (schools, anyone?), it seems strange to fear universal healthcare. An Obama presidency makes me think that change is actually coming, and some of these problems may actually be fixed. Hopefully we will fixed problems at home like health care, and then push us to become leaders on things like green energy globally.

Hopefully Obama will help the US regain footing and respect in the world. And hopefully voters will keep rejecting the old politics of fear, and keep the principles of change in their minds. Honestly, I haven't felt so politically refreshed since...EVER! Democracy really is amazing, and I want so much to believe that it is by the people, for the people.
