Whenever I put sunscreen on, I always manage to poke my self in the eye, and then it stings for like an hour. Anywho...
I finally finished the 7th book. It's been tougher finding time to read this summer, with school and all. Thankfully, I'm on the last 1/3 of my french course, and then I get to actually relax in the wonderful sunshine...but back to the book.
Really, I'm not sure how I feel about the whole thing. It was actually surprising how much JKR's writing has improved, and how the story was still interesting and engaging, even though so little of the story was actually at Hogwarts.
Things I liked:
= R/hr, duh. That pairing had to happen, but I'm glad it did. It wouldn't have worked any other way...unless someone died or something.
= H/g, another duh, but still cute.
= Snape being good. I always knew (and by "knew", I mean guessed) he would be good, but was felt wonderful to know the truth.
= Bellatrix totally getting pwned by Mrs. Weasley. (Bitch please, haha)
= Neville totally kicking snake butt.
= Dumbledore not being perfect. That was one thing that always bothered me about the books, was how much Harry looked up to Dumbledore...who I thought was frankly kind of arrogant...but I guess it all worked out.
= The intensity of the book was wonderful. It felt more epic than the others, much more fitting for a final book.
= That Ron finally stopped his bitching for a while, and saved Harry's life. Thank you Ronald.
= How Hermione is actually a completely awesome witch, more clever and cunning than the other two (at times anyway). While she may still get on my nerves in the movies, the book Hermione is fine by me.
= The really sad part where Harry meets his mom, dad, Lupin and Sirius. It was so sad, and so lovely. :)
Things I didn't like:
= Everybody died, or at least that is what it felt like. I know, not everyone, but some of the death seemed really unnecessary to me. Like why did Fred have to die? Or Lupin and Tonks (they just had a baby!)? I know that is was suppose to be brutal or whatever...but couldn't JKR kill Hagrid instead, come now.
= The epilogue. I HATED IT. It didn't really have much of a point, considering it just brought up a whole other mess of questions...and it felt utterly cheesy. After such a powerful final book, JKR ended on such a fluffy note. I wish I hadn't read it. Ugh.
= Draco. A little part of me hoped that he would have gotten some balls and stood up for the right thing at some point. I'm just an optimist, I guess.
= That Sirius is really dead. I had another secret hope that he was still alive, but that's all shot to pieces, too bad.
I know that there was more that I wasn't too happy with, but I'm too lazy to type more. Overall, it was good, and I'm content with the ending...which is all I ever really wanted. Congrats JKR, you made a final book that I don't hate...just an epilogue.
Now, I'm off to the wonderful grass and sun. I'm going to sit, read, and contemplate my fate.
