ENOUGH ABOUT THE GROUND ZERO MOSQUE

Aug 18, 2010 10:32

Looking back through my email, I found that my brother emailed me regarding this so-called "Ground Zero Mosque" controversy way back in May. I did about a ten minute google search, got to what I believed was the root of the issue, emailed him, and forgot all about it. If only the pundits of the world knew how to google.

THIS IS A NON-ISSUE

Let me 'splain. I will mention things that any idiot could find if they googled, but for some reason this information isn't ending up in any of the rhetoric on either side about this issue.
  1. This is not a provocative gesture. Feisal Abdul Rauf (the head of the Cordoba Initiative) is a Sufi Muslim, the closest thing to meditating hippies that Islam has. Very introspective and conciliatory, in fact most are pacifists. Plans for the Cordoba House were first announced publicly in December of last year and the reception in the community was warm.
  2. He's not building a mosque, he's moving his. He's already the imam of the Masjid al-Farah mosque eleven blocks from the Ground Zero site. It's sandwiched between a buncha bars, and the noise and belligerence from that crowd has been the source of a lot of problems for them. Hence the move.
  3. We're selective about how holy the WTC site is. There are 29 bars, 3 strip clubs, one mosque, and 10 escort services headquartered within the same radius. Please.
  4. "As seriously as we New Yorkers take the opinions of Texans on Manhattan real estate, we're gonna have to make this decision on our own." This from a friend of mine in that area. I had to share :-)
No I will not cite sources, like I said any idiot could find this information if they googled.

Now can this issue just die?
