With General Petraeus'
remarks about the coming reckoning in Afghanistan as he takes over CENTCOM, I would like to point everyone to developments
I didn't see coming in Pakistan's FATA: paramilitary involvement.
Pakistani Maj. Gen. Tariq Khan, head of the 80,000-strong paramilitary Frontier Corps,
has been pressing "full steam" for the first time since 2003 into Taliban strongholds in a number of tribal zones. It is believed that the FC's significant gains in these recent campaigns prompted the bombing of the Marriott hotel in Islamabad. The operation was authorized by Pakistan's fledgling civilian government under pressure from Coalition leaders furious over attacks on their Afghanistan assets from Taliban remnants based in Pakistan.
