My parents bought three chickens a couple of weeks ago and built a chicken coop and everything, and now eat nothing but eggs and are proper farmers and shit. Last night some creature terrorized the chickens and ended up killing and eating one of them!! We cannot figure out how this happened, because there is a fence, but there was poor little Black Chicken, dead as a doornail outside the fence. The other two, White Chicken and Red Chicken, are traumatised and mourning their poor friend Black Chicken. Mom and Dad spent all day building a coop that is off the ground, with a back wall that will keep any passing dogs or coyotes from seeing in. White Chicken is fine sleeping in her nest in the new coop, but Red Chicken refuses to go anywhere near that side of the pen, and is curled up by the gate. Poor little Red Chicken! I can't believe how sorry for her I feel. :(
Then Mom asked what we wanted for dinner, and said there was chicken. Dad and I were horrified.
