So, in general, life is good. A quick update:
First and foremost, I officially have a piano teacher at ASU for next year.
I went to a marching rehearsal Thursday. I'll keep most of my thoughts about this one to myself, but I will throw out some quick thoughts on the show...
Atmandja- Stock opener that consists of a dramatic..... single line. Wow. Also, not a fan of the freakish double crescendo thing leading up to it. Still, that one line is decently catchy.
Ninkou Latora- Much better than prune juice. Not as good as the original, but that can't be helped, a marching band really can't effectively imitate a full orchestra and singer, so... On a side note, Mireau doesn't know how to pronounce Ninkou Latora? Really? Now, I know the words look odd (I guess) but if you listen to the original soundtrack (which Mireau has, as do I), it starts with a timpani, basses, and the singers first two words... Ninkou Latora. It may look odd, but the pronunciation isn't exactly hidden.
Quidam- This song is actually the encore of the real show, so I don't really like it not being the closer. Also, as the encore, it was a very cheery song. I love nearly all of the marching arrangement, but the bizarre ending chords were a really unnecessarly liberty to take. Gah.
Incantation- Will be an entirely different song once there are decent drum parts. With the stock parts, it sucks. With the stock singing, it sucks. Without singing, and with a completely rewritten drum part and feature, it should be really flippin' cool.
Since I've been decently Cirque-obsessive all year, I took the show as an excuse to buy the DVD of Dralion (already had Quidam). Anyway, Dralion is absolutely awesome, my favorite of the Cirque shows I've seen (that, Mystere and Quidam). The DVD is just plain amazing.
Went to Beth's party last night. Got a chance to talk with some people I normally don't get a chance to talk to, so it was quite fun. Also, it is very very odd to go to a big dance-ish party and be the only college student there...
On to band camp!
