I have . . . . . . .
returned. Damn I'm tired. The PCMA 2005 clinic was a success, everyone had fun, and bruises were had by all. Next year will be held in Kansas by Sensei Long and his clan of Shotokan Karate-Do enthuasiasts. A short note on what/how/when/and so forth follows:
Shotokan Karate: not bad, but as I mentioned, they're enthuasiasts. I can't stand 'em when I'm working on things that have the potential to maim or kill another human being. Besides, I always end up with an inferiority complex when I deal with them.
Southern Mantis Kung Fu: nice people, but they focus WAY too much on straight-line attacks. They had an incredible weapons demo (wind-fire wheels, twin daggers and three-piece staff) and neat uniforms.
Brazilian Jujitsu: worked on countering throws. Now this was some great stuff! Next time I tango with a thrower he or she is gonna be very irritated with me.
Yu Sool: the precursor to Hapkido has a great many unrefined techniques that I adore. "Snake", "Milk the Cow" and "Feed Him His Wristwatch" are all great techniques.
Aikido: Shihan Hummerstone taught canework and mental flexibility again. He is quite possibly the single most dangerous human being I've ever met. I loves me some cane work.
Karaho Kempo: Mostly we worked toughening techniques for hands and forearms in this class. Good clean fun and bruises apace.
That's about all, not including the banquet (everyone ate too much and laughed too much and got too many awards) and early this morning (where I showed off in true aiki-style and got slammed into the mat).
