I seem to be unable to focus on the numerous windows I have open about butterfly migration for my invert project, so I figured I would update lj.

Today in my Anthropology class we watched a video narrated by Susan Sarandon and part of it focused on Billy Tipton, who was biologically female but who began cross dressing in 1933 so that she could play jazz music, because at that time females weren't allowed to play jazz, and ended up living as a man for the rest of her adult life. Billy even married and adopted kids and no one knew he was physically a female until he died. He gave a story that he had been in an accident that required him to wrap his chest and had mutilated his genitals. It's a fascinating story. Imagine being one of his sons and finding out your dad had been lying all of your life. And yet doing that enabled Billy to live his dream of being a jazz musician.

On sunday we had a very sad day at my house, because after being sick for a few days one of my mice, Prudy, finally gave up and passed away. Poor mousie. She was about 8 months old and came down with some sort of internal illness that resulted in her losing a lot of weight and having diarrhea, and by the end she wasn't eating or drinking. I feel so sad that she is gone, but at least she got to have a happy mousie life instead of getting sold to a reptile owner. And now I am worried that her sister, Penny, is going to feel lonely. I am considering getting another mouse or two to keep Penny company. Two would probably be better, because otherwise the new mouse would be lonely when Penny eventually dies, but that will require some re-working of my mouse cage situation.

At least school is going well so far. My marks for my recent bout of tests are as follows:
botany midterm: 84%
anthro miderm: 91%
invert lab exam: 85.5%
invert midterm: 96%

and I just had a botany lab exam yesterday (the day after my mouse died, that was fun) which I think I did alright on.

Oh, but I just checked the listings for finals today and found out that I have my Invert final at 8:30am Dec. 5th. Yes, that is the morning after the Great Big Sea concert that I have front row tickets to. Uggggh. I figure this is the bad luck to counteract the incredibly good luck of getting amazing tickets.

I guess that is enough time killing, back to circadian clocks and wind and butterflies.
