That's a wrap

The drunk driver who injured my brother and SIL and killed my mother in 2020 was sentenced yesterday to 22 years. He had prior convictions, plus he had been driving with his two kids in the car. These factors increased the number of charges and years to be served.

Though it was not as long a sentence as my family and the district attorney had hoped, at least he is off the street for a good long time.

After court, my husband and I made dinner for the family at home so we could decompress together. For dessert, I laid out a selection of all the sweets my mom liked best: tapioca pudding (this brand is made locally so it's healthy!), Dove chocolates (they have antioxidants so they're healthy!), and Chips Ahoy chunk cookies (she used to brazenly claim they were homemade, cleverly wrapped to look exactly like the brand). Everyone loved this idea, and scarfed up the tapioca in particular.

A lovely evening after a couple of years of anxiety.

daily life, mom
