[The Dreamberry turns on just as the tailend of Vanessa's dream has ended. She's been sleeping a while - almost two weeks at this point. The bed is piled high with blankets, as though it had been chilly enough to require so many at the time that she'd gone to sleep, but now in the middle of the day it was just warm enough inside of her borrowed ( Read more... )

[...what the shit.]

You were...t-the party--!

[That's about accurate, yeah.

He bows his head, hiding that smirk for a moment.]

Allow me to properly introduce myself. I am called Xerxes Break; I am a servant of the Rainsworth family.

[And then he looks into the screen again.]

On behalf of my Lady and myself, welcome to Somarium.

[Had they met like this back at the party, she might have done her best to pretend to greet him politely and then immediately turn her back to him, but here in this place...such things aren't allowed to come so easily to her. She swallows and clears her throat, trying to make her voice sound not-quite-so hollow.]

You are a member of Pandora. I saw you there, with all the rest and-- [A short, shuddering breath.] --my...my brother used to speak about you.

...A welcome is hardly necessary.

That is correct.

[So she last remembers a...'party'? Drat this different timelines thing--]

You are also correct in that a welcome is not necessary to a place such as this. However, prison as it may be, it is currently acting as a home of sorts. Thus, I would suggest you calm yourself, Miss Vanessa.

[And indignant self important mode is a go.]

Calm myself--?! How can one remain calm after one is kidnapped and then forced to remain unconscious for over a week?!

[Insert unimpressed smile here.]

Quite so. I am afraid you shall likely remain here for some time, and thus it would be wise to adapt.

[Equally unimpressed frown.]

A servant of the four great noble houses should know better than to speak in such a way.

[Hahaha manners what are those--]

Pardon my manners, Miss Vanessa Nightray~

But you shall find that your social standing matters little in this world.

[Manners, you know, those things that nobles are supposed to have. Clearly the Nightray family is the best at it. :|b]

Did I say anything of social standing? [Ignoring the fact that she really did--] I only ask that you don't treat me like some uninformed fool who can't control their emotions!

[Clearly so. Vanessa is a beautiful example of noble's manners.]

Then I would ask, Miss Vanessa, that you do not act like an uninformed fool who can't control her emotions.

[She could give lessons.]

Hold your tongue! I've just fallen asleep for almost two weeks for no logical reason! Anyone who sits by and accepts something like that without question is the fool, not me!

[She obviously should. That would be incredible.]

As is, perhaps, anyone who attempts to apply logic to a clearly illogical world. Though pardon me--

As you are clearly not illogical nor an uninformed fool, I shall simply inform you that these 'sleep comas', as they are called, are quite common. There is no need for alarm.

[Lesson 1 - slapping. Backhand vs open palm.]

That--regardless of that, it was my first time experiencing one! In the future I don't expect to react in that way! And it's hardly easy to abandon all logical thought in the course of just a few days!

[Her poor students.]

Why, if you weren't yourself, Miss Vanessa, it would almost sound as though you were making excuses! Ah~ Though you are certainly beside yourself, so perhaps that explains it.

I don't make excuses for anything! Don't you dare imply that I have some sort of disregard for personal responsibility!

[Though that phrase...beside herself. Her hand moves up to touch the tips of her fingers to her neck. Others had told her about that dream that Elliot had - that it had been exactly what happened to her. Had this man seen too? Or was it just a turn of phrase that she was misinterpreting?]

I'll ask you again to hold your tongue.
