Disclaimer: This is an act of fiction. I don’t own any of the characters just the plot.
Author Notes: For my
schmoop_bingo prompt “cuddling with pets”. I apologize for the corny title. I couldn’t think of another one. Honest.
Dean slammed the door in Gabriel’s face when he saw him. He knocked rapidly until Dean reopened the door. “What do you want?”
Gabriel looked taken aback. “Dean-o, what a way to treat a guest. A guest who died at your benefit.”
Dean rolled his eyes. “I think I actually liked it better that way,” He slammed it one more time.
“You do know I don’t actually have to knock, right? I was being courteous.”
Dean closed his eyes and leaned his head against the door. “Yeah. What do you want Gabriel? And where’s Cas?”
Dean was met with silence and he willed Gabriel away but he was still there when he opened his eyes and turned around. He was holding a kitten so that created even more questions.
“Castiel…is detained. But I need you to watch this kitten with your life,” then he was gone, leaving the kitten in his place.
Dean picked the kitten up and screw this. “Gabriel!” he shouted. Nothing. “You son of a bitch,” he muttered under his breath.
Dean set the kitten on the table and it sat straight up. Rigid almost. It was kind of cute. In a kitten kind of way. It had blue eyes and was a mix of black, white and tan. Almost like…

Dean decided to go to a local pet store to pick up some food because Cat only lifted his nose up at Dean’s leftovers. He decided on Cat because there was a chance it was just a plain old kitten. But because Gabriel was a dick it could be Cas, too.
“Cat” was a compromise.
Cat stuck his (that much was true because Dean at least checked that much) head out of Dean’s pocket when they reached the store. The fur on the top of his head tickled Dean’s neck a little bit.
He picked up a few cans of food and a newspaper because he didn’t want to lug a kitty litter tray back to the hotel.
Cat whined as they passed by the fish department. He got a little restless after a while so Dean decided to just get the food and the paper. The girl who checked Dean out kept cooing at Cat and Dean should have done this years ago.
Cat looked up at Dean with a serious expression.
“I wouldn’t don’t worry,” Dean consoled and Cat seemed pleased with that answer. It was leading more towards Cat-Castiel.
They made it back to the hotel and Dean got Cat’s food ready and watched as he wouldn’t touch any of that either. “Cat, just eat the damn food.”
Cat wouldn’t be swayed. He just sat there and challenged Dean. Dean was all about challenges. Dean was also about shoving kitten noses in cans of food.
Cat glared at Dean when he lifted his head back up. He licked the food attached to his face warily. He didn’t hate the taste, apparently, and continued onto the can.
“Damn stubborn kitten,” Dean complained and walked away. He lay on the bed and watched the television for a few hours, keeping an eye on Cat during the commercials. The thing kept creating mischief everytime he looked up.
First he was nosing the can all over the room. Then he was using the couch as a scratch post, the he was getting caught up in Dean’s laces. He didn’t see the cat after he got out of the shower so he figured he was hiding somewhere. He got into the bed and as soon as he got comfortable he felt a tiny weight pounce on his side.
He turned his head and he was met with two tired blue eyes. “No,” he said. Cat meowed back at him. “I’ll kick you,” he threatened but Cat made no move to get off him.
Dean sighed. He was getting too soft. He picked up the kitten and put it on the bed next to him. “Best I’ll do,” Cat didn’t believe that anymore than Dean did. He crawled up to lay on Dean’s arm against his face. Dean sighed and curled around the kitten.

When another body dipped on the other side of the bed, Dean figured Cas was back in human form. He leaned back against Castiel but something was off. Castiel made a noise at the back of his neck but there was another noise that was disorienting.
There was a purring noise against his cheek. He lifted his head off the pillow groggily and sure enough the little kitten was still there. He turned around to look at Castiel, and yeah that was Castiel.
Dean glared at Cas. “Prove yourself.”
Castiel frowned and leaned forward to whisper into Dean’ ear. And yep, this was Castiel alright. If it was Gabriel he was a lot creepier and voyeuristic than Dean had imagined. “So you haven’t spent your day as a kitten?”
Castiel frowned further. “No, I was in Heaven. Gabriel was supposed to tell you.”
Dean frowned, also. Gabriel could get bent. Dean looked down at Cat now that he knew it wasn’t Cas. He couldn’t really find it in his heart to get rid of the little guy. He lay back down, bringing Cat onto his chest so both him and Castiel could see clearly.
“Well he didn’t. But good news. Meet Cat, he’s going to be living with us for a while.”
Cas kissed him and before Dean knew it he was already asleep. Castiel carefully grabbed Cat and brought him to rest on Castiel’s chest. It fell asleep instantly and Castiel watched it rise up and down on his chest. He had to remember to let Gabriel orchestra his plans more often.
End.
